When you stay at the 8 Mile House Deluxe, you will enjoy a sense of old California serenity with all of the modern comforts you could want, including four historically themed guest rooms, a scenic covered porch and a large outdoor patio, dining table and barbecue. Included with the 8 Mile House are two spacious apartments, The Stampede Loft and Buckaroo Flat. Elements of the original 19th-century structure are found in nearly every aspect of the property, while apple trees, pomegranate, persimmon trees and grapevines provide a timeless ambiance that is rooted in the ranch’s agricultural heritage. The standalone party barn is great for watching the game, serving up drinks and hanging out! The home sits on 3 acres, surrounded by hiking and biking trails located 5 minutes away.
Built by the Bean brothers in 1877, this home is exactly eight miles from the mission town of San Luis Obispo—a meaningful distance at the time of its creation. Located at the north base of the steep Cuesta Grade on the original El Camino Real, the home was used as a hotel for travelers making their way up or down the grade. The travelers could park their heavily loaded wagons, seek overnight lodging and even rent extra teams of horses for their journey across the grade.
Today, the 8 Mile House stands as a testament to Santa Margarita Ranch's tradition of “early California rancho hospitality.” Originally settled by Franciscan missionaries in the late 1700s, Santa Margarita Ranch is still one of California’s oldest continuously operated cattle ranches—and is today best known as the home of Ancient Peaks Winery.
The 8 Mile House Deluxe ultimately reflects a love of history and a joy in sharing the ranch with others—a passion that is evident in all of the little details that make this place so special.
The 8 Mile Deluxe includes the historical main house, the Stampede and Buckaroo Flat. The main house sleeps 8 and has 2 full bathrooms. Stampede and Buckaroo Flat are 100 yards from the main house. Both are newly remodeled and delightfully designed with a western flare. Stampede sleeps 4 and is a two bedroom, two bathroom upstairs apartment, while Buckaroo Flat sleeps 8 and is a 3 bedroom, two bathroom downstairs apartment.
Located less than 20 minutes from Shell or Avila Beach, and Santa Margarita Lake (a great fishing spot), 5 minutes from wine tasting/zip line @ Margarita Adventures and only 15 minutes from Downtown San Luis Obispo. County Permit #6008975

Great property, had a great time.
Fantastic place to stay. There were 12 of us and there was enough bedrooms that everyone had their own room and space with large King Size Beds in all rooms but one that had two queens that worked out perfectly. The beds are super comfortable. We enjoyed eating at the party barn and loved seeing the peacocks, rabbits, goats, and deer. The location is great and close by everything from wine tasting to Pismo, Avila, and Morro Bay. Highly recommend this for large groups!
Amazing setting! Quiet and clean. Turkeys and peacocks roam free. Outdoor space to play games and enjoy. The beds are comfortable and the kitchens are ready for home cooked meals. The saloon shed is the highlight.

We loved staying here with a group of friends and family. It's a private property with (3) units and we took turns hosting in each kitchen. The barn was perfect for the night owls to hang out in and not bother those who went to sleep early. Plenty of space for outdoor activities such as cornhole, horseshoes, and BBQ.
Spectacular property and accommodations. Rented all of it for party of 15 (4 families represented) which worked out great with the various spaces. Did eating and group gathering in main house. Would have loved to make use of party barn, but it was a little too chilly for that. Loved the decor, the ambiance, and the stunning peacocks! Highly recommend and would return. Only downsides are access off of highway (a bit nerve-wracking) and low water pressure in showers, but neither would deter us from a future visit.
Overall, a fabulous place to gather and create new memories!

We rented the 8 Mile House for my sister's bachelorette party weekend, and it was an excellent choice for our group of 15 guests. The house was perfect for group activities, dining, and relaxing together. During the day, we used the party barn, which added to the fun. Everyone was comfortable and thoroughly enjoyed their stay.The location was excellent; it was an easy drive to San Luis Obispo and Paso Robles, given the close proximity to wineries and shopping areas. There was a Costco and a Target within 15 minutes, which helped ensure the house was stocked with the items we needed for the weekend.
We hosted our bridal party and their significant others at this property and had enough space for everyone! The multiple fridges were incredibly helpful for taking home food and beverages from our wedding off-site. Some of the doorknobs and other elements of the home needed to be updated/repaired, but everything seemed tidy and up to standard expectations. It would have been helpful to see what beds were provided for each of the houses and where they were located (downstairs vs. upstairs, etc.) since we all checked in at different times. And as stated, the turnoff for this property from 101 North was quite abrupt (but manageable). Overall would recommend!

We were here for a family reunion, which included 7 families with small kids. We appreciated having the two houses so close together to bounce between for meals and hangout time. Place was clean. Beds were comfortable. The apartment house had some issues with water pressure but we made it work. We had some good outdoor space for young kids to kick around balls and appreciated being able to eat lunch on the 3 picnic tables. We saw the train 3 or 4 times during our stay (all in the day time) and were not bothered by it. Took a 20 minute drive to the beach and 5 minute drive to a cool family friendly brewery in SLO. The entrance in and out of the property is stressful the first time, but easier once you know what to expect. Everyone got a kick out of the peacocks and kids loved being able to see the horses and cows. Overall we had a great stay and a weekend full of memories.

With a group of 16 we rented both houses. The property was immaculate and thoughtfully gracious on arrival. Arrival was easy. It rained all weekend but we had a fine time. The property is fascinating and unusual. Peacocks! Turkeys! Trains!

Retreat for our whole clan. It was a family gathering which also felt like a retreat. The children especially enjoyed the peacocks roaming the property as well as the farm animals next door - goats, cows and horses. Will definitely book again if we choose to meet near Santa Margarita.

My family’s and I enjoyed our experience at the 8 mile house! We were pleasantly surprised to have had the opportunity to see wild life such as wild turkeys, peacocks, horses, goats, cows, a deer and even a tarantula. The interior units were immaculate and almost all necessities were provided for. The staff were also friendly and accommodating, thank you so much! We will definitely make a second trip.
The beds were very comfortable I never was able to find a check in time. The space was great. We had difficulty eating together and playing games as only the smallest unit had a dining table that sat 6. The management was very responsive. I’d visit again.
Beautiful place. Wish access was safer. Enjoyed all the property and animals. There were a few cooking utensils that we missed having. I bought a rubber scraopper to leave for the next people.

I recently visited the 8 Mile House with a large group of friends, and we had a fantastic experience! The Paso Vacation Rentals team was very responsive, and they made sure the houses were absolutely spotless. The kitchens (all three!) are fully stocked, the beds are comfy, and there are plenty of places to hang out which was great because it poured rain while we were there. I highly recommend this spot!
I wanted to celebrate my 50th birthday in a relaxing environment with a big handful of my amazing friends. This place was perfect!! It accommodated all 20 of us and was fully equipped with everything we needed. The roaming peacocks just add to the beauty of it. Hoping I can make it back here someday soon!
The 8 Mile House, Stampede and Buckaroo were a wonderful setting for our family who gathered from multiple states to celebrate our son and daughter-in-law’s wedding. This VRBO was just minutes away from the Spanish Oaks wedding venue. The area was beautiful. Each bedroom is comfortable and the beds are comfortable to sleep on after busy days. Each unit has everything needed for a wonderful stay. The only downside is it can be a little difficult to get on and off the 101.

We had a good stay overall. The location was excellent, very convenient for getting around, and the rental was spotless and well-kept. The beds were comfortable, and everything was set up nicely for guests.However, the biggest drawback was the very low water pressure. The shower in particular was frustrating to use, and even the faucets had the same issue. This really took away from what could have been a perfect stay. If the water pressure is improved, this place would be an outstanding option.
