Due to its unique orientation, it acts as a scoop and gathers seashells along its beaches. Sanibel is a secluded paradise where spectacular natural beauty surrounds you. Brush away the beach sand and you will find layers of environmental, historical and cultural depth.
The island is a nature lover's dream, come true. Over half of the island has been conserved. The J.N. 'Ding' Darling National wildlife refuge is host to many exotic species of plants and wildlife. The conservation foundation nature center and Bailey Matthew's Shell Museum, offer hands-on exhibits and walking trails to explore.
