One of our favorite little weekend getaways is a quick 45 minute drive from Houston. The Hotel Galvez and Spa has been the grand hotel of the Galveston sea wall since 1911. Originally built to help Galveston tourism recover from the devastation of the great hurricane of 1900 that almost ended the life of this island city. Charming architecture, beautiful pool, great bars and amenities. Given its age and history it has more than a few ghost stories as well. The Hotel is a member of Historic Hotels of America, the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

"I like the room because there is a large window with a view of the ocean. I enjoyed the two restaurants and liked not having to drive. The room had the 1950's look fridge & micro, really cool! I really liked the large available trash cans outside. Some hotels are cheap and have no trash cans. They expect you to step over peoples KFC boxes!' Very nice hotel, my favorite in Galveston. Thank you!"

"The room was great! The size, the bed and the size of shower. I'm not sure what the other rooms are like but I will recommend room 311 to anyone that stays there. The desk clerk was not always available but we were able to make due on our own. Will definitely return!"

"My husband brought me for my 60th birthday! We love the central location, excellent views, spacious room newly updated and clean. We enjoyed the hot tub, the bar/lounge area for Monday night football while we waited on a late night pizza dinner in our room. Breakfast menu was fresh and generous portions. Wonderful stay to celebrate!"
