"The location of the San Diego Omni near Petco Park made it an ideal hotel for our trip to see the SD Padres play the SF Giants. The trip was a birthday present for my husband.
The hotel is not cheap, but it has catering to baseball fans there for one of two games down to a science. We were able to check into our room early—14:00—and then relax until 17:00, when we took the 4th-floor bridge to the ballpark.
We enjoyed the ball game despite the Giants’ loss—and had a good night’s sleep before ordering a nice room-service breakfast. We checked out at 11:00 with no drama and made it to the airport on time.
The staff were all friendly, the room was nicely air-conditioned, and the staff were very helpful: the staff got us a mini tube of toothpaste when we realized we forgot to pack one.
One piece of advice: San Diego often closes the roads around the Omni and Petco Park hours before weekend games, particularly for Padres and SF Giants games. Apparently, this doesn’t show up on the maps of Uber drivers, so before getting in a ride-share, check your Apple or Waze app and let the driver know so they can bypass bad map directions and stress.
I’d pay extra for the Omni to offer a bus or. An from the airport to the hotel on these weekends, as they will know the best way to get folks from the airport to the hotel. Not a complaint of the Omni, just a wish."
