"The guesthouse is exactly what I needed for my trip! Cute and clean, close to the Sado ferry and the main bus stop, and they were able to communicate the rules and accommodations clearly even though there was a language barrier. I used their website (translated to English) to ask a question about my stay, and they responded very quickly! "

"Koshinoyado Takashimaya is a very traditional Ryokan, in the best sense! It is located in an ancient building that is very well maintained.
The staff was very friendly and caring, service was impeccable. The food was delicious, diner and breakfast alike. We have stayed in ryokans before, in various regions in Japan. Our stay here was one of the most pleasant experiences overall.
Very much recommended!"

"Quiet, safe, right beside train station. Good room temperature. Blackout sliding panels on the window, which also served during my cold December three-night stay to keep the room warm at night, preventing heat from radiating out from the large window. The chair at the desk was very comfortable both for working and for reading, with padding on the seat and on the back."
"Hotel structure does have atrium.
This atrium is without roof, so winter is very cold/chilly and
Very hot in summer season when you move from your room to dining area, hot spring facility and front desk.
This hotel should be install roof over the atrium."
"Very conveniently located by the JR Niigata station. Although I did not get the buffet breakfast as I had to checkout early, like it offers all the regional Niigata foods. "
"This is an aging hot spring hotel type ryokan, but it is well maintained and the staff is outstanding. This hotel is still so popular with the locals that all of their restaurants were sold out for all meals on a Tuesday."
"The breakfast menu was great. All service personnel we interacted with were outstanding. American hotel workers should be trained by their Japanese counterparts."
"Comfortable beds snd bedding with a plush comforter and our room had an ofuro japanese tub for soaking!
It was a big hotel but easy to check in/out; I especially liked the express checkout. Close to train station and an easy walk to the river. "
