Lamb shanks? Yes please!

We landed after 8 pm due to a police drama on the Bruce Highway. Tired and hungry after a nearly 4 hour delay. The cook, a true Saint by any standards, took charge and presented us with a feed of lamb shanks, mashed potato, veggies and gravy better than any I have known. The premises are obviously old and dated but we had a good shower, a comfortable bed and a great night’s sleep.

This dated motel is located on the northern entry to Rockhampton. Suitable for the budget conscious car traveller, staying 1 to 2 nights, wanting a clean, comfortable bed, clean and renovated hot shower plus a microwave and tea/coffee facilities. Meals are available on site or a shopping centre and tavern just 1 km down the road.

Staff were friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the motel itself was very run down unlike the photos. Curtains falling down, leaking tap, pool empty and gardens rubble. Needs immediate upgrade. No safe kids area to play.

We stayed for 2 nights as we wanted to do a day trip around the area and this was the perfect base for us. The room was quite big as was the bathroom and all rooms in our wing had a door opening to quite a large open space with small individual tables and chair for each room to relax at. Didn’t try the in-house dining option. Would stay again.

The staff were amazing with great onsite food options. Parking directly outside your room was also good. The room itself though was horrible - broken tiles in shower, stained table clothes, dripping tap, and a burn in the carpet. It’s just very, very old and needs major refurbishment
