Thank you for having us
This was our second time. We love the place, the space, the trains and the memorabilia. Watching the trains go through was a total highlight for my dad, the kids played badminton in the garden and we did some beautiful walks in National Park. A great place for the whole family.

Staying at this house is a memorable experience
This house has a very large collection of antiques on display. Felt like we were stepping back in time and the kids loved it, such a good learning experience for them seeing all old things that people used in the olden days. Cozy house. Massive yard for the kids to play soccer and run around. I personally don't think it would be safe to bring toddlers here because the train track is just off the boundary & not fenced.

Weekend break
Great place, location and price. House was warm once the fire was going for 2 hrs. The trains weren’t that bad although being right next to the track. The down side about unserviced/self clean is the previous ppl didn’t leave it that clean, dirty kitchen towels left in the bathroom and small rm, food and crumbs on floor, no newspaper or kindling left in house to light fire so had to go get some in the pouring rain from the wood shed. We definitely left it cleaner than when we arrived. Really enjoyed having no Wi-Fi or tv

Most enjoyable
Enjoyable stay. Bach is not serviced and the fridge freezer needs attention, ice build up needs to be fully defrosted.
Advertised for family and is good but with toddlers the section needs to be fenced, all said enjoyable stay and close to all facilities, Whakapapa and National Park,

Vintage Trip Down the Memory Lane
Winter visits could be challenging for travelers new to the idea of heating up the house with firewood, especially for those with respiratory problems extra care will be needed. For us its an exciting experience instead.
The house has an array of odds and ends that would rekindle old memories for elderlies and retell life stories of the 20th century for the youngins. The chess pieces are carved, pretty unfortunate that some of them were missing. Amenities on the other hand are kept to date especially the kitchen, striking a balance between convenience and adventure. Cleaning is a necessity as the house is self-serviced.
This is an awesome place for train spotting thanks to its proximity to a servicing railroad and just around the inner corner of a railway spiral. House would shake as the trains pass, so a light sleeper might find this an issue. Otherwise a pretty enjoyable cottage.

Perfect Family Getaway
We wanted to make a trip to the snow, and we wouldn’t have asked for a better place to do it. It is rustic, but nice. I was afraid the train would be an issue, but it wasn’t so bad. The hosts were very kind, even though we caused an issue for them, and the neighbors helped us tremendously when we woke up to a dead car battery! Overall - loved it

Beautiful bach in a beautiful spot
We really enjoyed this lovely cottage with its quirky decor, and everything that we could possibly need.
We loved the rumble of the trains as they went past, and running out to see them wind their way up the spiral.
The host was communicative and kept us up to date with events in the settlement when work was needed on damaged water pipes - thankfully repaired before our stay.
We’d love to come back again.

Great place to stay. Right alongside the Raurimu spiral - so you know when to go and have a look at the spiral in action. Great decor and beds. Note that if you stay in winter the house is heated by a wetback so get there early and get the fire started. Fun place to stay

Another great stay
This was our second time at the property, just as enjoyable and the things that seemed tricky the first time were actually very easy. e.g. light the fire immediately on arrival and the radiators will just be warming by the time the kids go to bed. Hot water bottles (supplied) are still recommended to warm the bed on night #1 though.
Place is cosy, well equipped with the essentials, and provides a nice family break from TV and Wifi. A recommended family ski accommodation for the adventurous.

We very much enjoyed our stay here. All the needed amenities was there plus some. The fireplace and living room was awesome and perfect after a day out on the mountain. We just loved it!
There is so much character in this house it takes to another time which is exactly what we were looking for. The fireplace heats really well and fast. Just be ready to chop some wood first.
The fire will heat the house and the water.
Lots of outdoor space which kids loved.
Hosts are very good communicators.

Would recommend but...
Overall a great stay but I just need to emphasise that this place is only cleaned by previous guests so cleanliness can't be guaranteed. We had to clean before we used the place and then again afterwards... it's also incredibly dusty because of all the decor, no one will dust up there. However for the price, you can't complain but if you have allergies, it's better to stay away. The vacuum cleaner isn't very strong and there are a lot of empty bottles of cleaning supplies... We bought linen and tea towels but didn't have dishwashing liquid or other cleaning cloths.
Also, the description needs to be updated because there's a number you can call about the crossing but it's just a hotel and they won't book the shuttle for you...they told me to call Summit Shuttles but they said they didn't offer pick up (we just drove to National Park to the Park N Ride). There is a lovely charm to the place as per the other reviews and I would recommend (if there was a new vacuum and more cleaning supplies). Thank you for our stay!

Great cosy bach
We really enjoyed this wee bach, the fire once going is amazing with heating the whole house. Took a while for the panel heaters to warm up, they only came on the first night. The choice of fire wood made it hard as some of it was wet. Definitely need to take extra duvets for all beds. We stayed mid week and had 4-5 trains go past throughout the night. The kids loved the play equipment and wanted to be on it all the time. Wasn't long to get to Whakapapa at all. We left the house cleaner than we found it.
Great cabin with awesome atmosphere and character. Trains were a cool feature and kids outdoor play area was a plus.
