The Dakota Hogan, AKA “RW Hogan,” is a custom-designed, 4-bedroom home at the top of Edelweiss Mountain. The cabin’s namesake, “Hogan,” refers to its design, modeled after the traditional dwelling of the Navajo people. With a traditional wood fireplace in the center of the home and a front door facing east to welcome the rising sun, this eight-sided home has wrap-around decks that offer panoramic views across the Black Hills.

The Hogan is entirely wood inside and out with beautiful hardwood flooring, custom spiral staircases, and is adorned with Native American artwork and textiles from the owners’ personal collection. The expansive two-story windows feature custom stained glass landscapes and the living room offers comfortable seating and extra sleeping space with a hideaway bed. The primary bedroom is on the third floor, with a private bathroom, king bed, and an enclosed deck. The two other bedrooms on the third floor each have queen beds and ample closet/storage for longer stays. As motorcycle enthusiasts, the owners decorated the fourth bedroom, located on the ground floor, with their Sturgis and Harley-Davidson memorabilia. This space is a perfect playroom for kids and adults alike, with a smart TV, private bath, two single beds, and additional sleeping space available with a trundle bed and hide-a-bed sofa.

This property has everything you need to feel comfortable at home, including Wi-Fi, satellite TV, family games, hiking trails, and central air conditioning, plus a one-of-a-kind design. It’s the perfect mountain getaway, with access to Lake Pactola, Rapid City, Deadwood, and Sturgis within an hour’s drive. Not to mention Cosmos, Reptile Gardens, Hot Springs, Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, and Needles Highway are all a short drive away.

Huge House - Spectacular View

The house is absolutely beautiful. We only had our family of 5, but the house was easily big enough for a second family. The pictures don’t do the view any justice. The kitchen had all of the basic utensils/cookware needed to make a meal. We would absolutely stay here again!

Our initial property that we were staying at had a toilet in the basement that started overflowing with and they couldn't get it fixed right away. We found this place and the property manager was awesome and so was the property itself. Much bigger and half the price as our original property.

Great Black Hills Vacation

We really enjoyed our stay at the RW Hogan. Stunning views. The inside of the cabin is very well laid out. Plenty of room and tastefully decorated. I would highly recommend staying there. Our expectations were exceeded!

Beautiful views

House has beautiful views since you are really on a mountain and met all our needs. The decks are wonderful- we sat outside every night. This is a great place if you want to be away. The drive up the mountain is about 10 minutes so it's perfect if you want to be remote but if you are looking to be in the action you might look elsewhere. Property is well maintained and was great for our large family group.

Steep Driveway

The Hogan property is beautiful with many updates to make for a great stay. The location is about 2 miles of dirt road that is, at points, very steep and can be treacherous for motorcycles. I would recommend parking bikes at the bottom of the hill at the host facilities an then driving to the property in other vehicle. Julia is amazing! A fantastic host and a warm and welcoming individual who communicates timely and effectively. Great working with her. I will work with her again on our next fellowship weekend. Don

Covid Family social distancing vacation

This rental was better than any of the pictures! One of the most peaceful beautiful spots in the Black Hills and very easy to access! We had 6 adults and 2 kids and plenty of room for more. The only thing lacking was more time to spend there!

Beautiful views! Kitchen is nicer than mine at home & better stocked than I expected. It was a perfect getaway, allowing us to not be around many people during Coronavirus and feel like we were a world away.

Family Getaway

Our family had a wonderful week away from the cares of this crazy year! My wife and I, plus our adult children and their spouses all enjoyed our time at the cabin and in the surrounding Black Hills. There was plenty of space, so there was room to spread out, and yet great spaces to come together. The views are amazing. We had fantastic views of the comet Neowise, and even used the telescope from the covered porch. The area is very quiet as it's a bit remote, yet we could get to most all parts of the Black Hills quickly. The kitchen is large and well equipped for all of our meals there. Highly recommend this spacious cabin!

Stunning views!

This property exceeded my expectations! Multiple decks provide for all day viewing of the spectacular Black Hills. The kitchen has top notch tableware, utensils, cookware, etc. and plenty of it. We did feel the screened in porches could be cleaner and dead flies by the windows cleaned up, but they didn't bother. There was ample room for family to spread out when needing alone time. I have already recommended this property to multiple friends. Thank you for a lovely stay!

Wonderful Home -- Great Outdoor Views

My friends and I stayed in this house for our annual summer reunion, and it was everything that we hoped it would be. The decking around the house provides incredible views, and the kitchen/facilities were easy to work and operate. Internet worked great. We especially loved that it was one of the last houses inside its community, so while there are still neighbors, we still felt like we were in the forest. This house is central to everything, but due to how secluded it is, it does take at least 20-30 minutes to get to any attractions. The road coming in has many hairpin turns and cows roam freely, so if you are coming in at night, please be careful!

Fantastic stay

The RW Hogan house was a wonderful home to stay in for our family vacation the day after Christmas. The layout was really fun and there was plenty of room for reading, resting, games and movies. They have a library of movies at the cabin and the main office. The cabin was well stocked for our stay. Our 8 year old especially loved the bunk beds. The views were spectacular and we really enjoyed and appreciated the Native American decor. The cabin was at the top of the mountain, so it took awhile to drive up, but the feeling of seclusion was what were looking for. The location was perfect for the popular tourist points and close to Rapid City. The manager, Julie, was very attentive through email and text. We would love to stay at the cabin again.
