About this property
Creek-side Paradise + Hot Tub + Bar + Sleeps 8 + Black Hills
Fish for trout steps from your back door. Soak in a private hot tub while the creek flows below. Watch bighorn sheep graze on the hillside across the water. This is a genuine Black Hills paradise — and there is nothing else quite like it in all of South Dakota.
Perfectly situated just 1 minute from Thunderhead Falls and 15 minutes west of Rapid City, this charming 3-bedroom cabin sits right on the water on a beautifully private stretch of the Black Hills. With 117 reviews and a 9.6 out of 10 rating, guests come back year after year — and it's easy to see why.
SLEEPS 8 | 3 BEDROOMS | 2 BATHROOMS
THE CABIN This fully furnished 3-bedroom retreat sleeps up to 8 guests comfortably across a king master suite, a main floor queen bedroom, and a lower level queen bedroom — each with its own character and charm.
The fully equipped kitchen has everything you need for home-cooked meals, and the dining area seats the whole group. The spacious living areas flow naturally to the outdoor spaces where the real magic happens.
THE OUTDOOR EXPERIENCE Outside, the private hot tub overlooks the creek — one of the most breathtaking spots to relax in all of the Black Hills. The bar area with Bluetooth music system is perfect for entertaining. A scenic walking path follows the creek through the property, and the water is ideal for trout fishing right on site. A wood-fired experience and outdoor grill round out the outdoor entertainment options.
The property also features "The Hut" — a unique bonus entertainment space and sleeping loft that guests absolutely love.
SEASONAL HIGHLIGHTS Summer: fish the creek, soak the hot tub, hike the Flume Trail Fall: brilliant foliage surrounds the cabin, bighorn sheep are most active Winter: snow-dusted pines, cozy fires, peaceful seclusion (4WD recommended) Spring: rushing creek, wildlife everywhere, wildflowers on the hillside
HISTORY This property is steeped in remarkable local history. The original Flume Trail — built to carry water to the gold mines of the Black Hills — runs behind the cabin along the mountain. At the front of the property, the old railroad that operated in the late 1800s and early 1900s once passed right through. And the bend in the creek nearby was a traditional camping area for Native Americans — a peaceful, storied spot with centuries of history beneath your feet.
WILDLIFE Keep your eyes open — bighorn sheep are regularly spotted on the hillside across the creek, bald eagles soar overhead, and a wonderful variety of birds make this area home year-round.
PARKING & ACCESS Free off-street parking on site. Self check-in via smartlock — your code will be provided prior to arrival.
PLEASE NOTE Like most properties in the Black Hills, this home uses a well system — completely standard for the area. In winter months, 4-wheel drive or AWD is recommended for the lower parking area.
Our prices include all fees. No hidden fees.

Host took care of minor issues promptly. The location was perfect! By the river, quiet yet close to town and hiking trails! Loved the hot tub and tiny house - so cute and comfy!!
Very comfortable, clean and inviting home. But it's the river that runs through the property that is the icing on the cake. Would stay here in a heartbeat again.
Beautiful location & clean house. My family had a great time staying for our vacation. Easy to get to trails & the hot tub was a great to come back to. Nice, peaceful & relaxing.
This is a gorgeous property!!! Was exactly as listed, very clean, and a great spot to simply relax!!!! The views were amazing! Our host was great, and the entire process was easy!!! We will be back, 100%!!!
We had been traveling for several days and it was nice to have a comfy place to stay. The hot tub was perfect except the ice on the deck. I wish we had stayed longer but we had to get on the road again.
Our stay was without issue. As previously stated in other reviews the house needs some tlc and there is a loud noise that periodically turns on that can be disturbing at night. Note that there is only one shower in the house and the bedrooms are close together so it’s alright for family or close friends. The location was nice for visiting Mount Rushmore and the badlands.
This setting had a beautiful view, was quiet and separate from neighbors, and between the deck, yard, basement, fire pit, and hot tub, had multiple spaces for people to interact. We also appreciated the open dining and living room spaces adjacent to the kitchen, as we were able to set up board games and play while cooking.
The best!!! Unbelievable location, beautiful!!! Absolutely great communication with the host couple!!! Definitely will be back!!!! If you want peace, and solitude, this is the place!!! The brook that runs past is so nice to just sit by or the kids can wade in it!!!
Property was a great location for all surrounds towns. Peaceful and Beautiful stream right in the backyard! Problem with the Box Elder Bugs in everything, other than that Great place!
The property is exactly as what is listed, right along Rapid Creek. I recently got married just a couple miles down the road and this property was perfect for members of my wedding party. It was clean, absolutely beautiful and a nice and relaxing place to stay. The hosts were great to work with and were very timely in response to any questions I had. Next time I am in the hills, I will be staying here. Thank you Robert and Jennifer!
We stayed for a long weekend! Getting to the property was not a problem, and the check in process with the host was very easy! The creek flowing through the back was my absolute favorite! It was so peaceful to sit out on the deck in the morning with my coffee and just take it all in. The hot tub was perfect on the cool fall evenings too! It is located right off the highway, but there never seemed to be too much noise from it. We really enjoyed our stay!
This was a beautiful spot, the creek is right next to you and the view was stunning. The main road on the other side of the property was very close to the house but the view and the creek on the other side of the house completely distracts you from the busy road. The hot tub did not work when we arrived however the property manager did compensate us for that and was very apologetic. The home was clean and tidy and even had a dog door for our Aussie. Thanks for the stay!
We had a great stay in the hills. The location was perfect and the accommodations were great. The house and surrounding area was beautiful and we enjoyed the amenities, especially the hot tub. The house was clean and had everything we needed, right down to the Christmas tree which added a special touch this time of year. We wish we could have stayed longer to enjoy the house/area. The hosts had great communication with us. As soon as we booked, we reviewed a welcome message with instructions and the information on checking in and checking out was sent in a timely matter. Overall, a great experience and we would stay here again. Thank you.
great location and amazing back yard. enjoyed it kitchen was well stocked. right in the middle the black hills .A few things to possibly improve upon i am not ranting but the hot tub was not clean when we arived and had to reset breakers and remove filters to get it to stay running. the furnature located on both decks was falling apart 50% was not safe to use/the fire pit was full of garbage upon arival/the gas grill was a poorly assembled charcoal that we took apart and returned it to a usable state [also with trash in it.recomondations would beif your charging that much $$ it should be a little bit tighter.ps,put an ac in second upstairs bedroom and put a ceiling in the basement insulslation was hanging down
The yard and creek are BEAUTIFUL, and so peaceful. We took gorgeous pictures! The rock cliff directly on the other side of the creek is MAGNIFICENT to behold. There is a full loft bed in the 'hut', that's not listed, so that's a bonus for room to sleep. There are two scantily clad cartoon girls on the wall in the hut, and no lock on that door.Just general info.
The layout of the main floor in the house is great for groups! The big kitchen w/large island, flows into the dining table, which flows into the living room couches, so people can be together but with space and room. There was plenty of coffee waiting for us!The deck is very cool. The basement is neat and clean and open, but with unfinished ceiling and exposed water heater and some exercise equipment. This house is not crispy brand new, but it is clean and comfortable, roomy, and nice-and the price is awesome. The neighboring houses are very close, but you have a really nice, roomy yard with several SUPER NEAT trees where kids can run and play and explore along the creek. We were wishing we could've stayed longer!
The hosts were VERY, VERY helpful and accommodating to our special requests, they were very responsive. We would stay again!
The location is perfect for experiencing the Black Hills
• The location is perfect with great access to many sites in the BH. Liked the Johnson Siding General Store just 2 miles away for picking up a little food/liquor. Internet was reliable. Code lock for front door worked well and plenty of room to park 2 SUVs.
• Backyard is gorgeous and one of the best features of the property. The view from the deck and the flowing creek are so cool! We played frisbee, bocce ball and enjoyed drinks on the deck. Deck could use a face-lift. We used the charcoal grill. A large gas grill would be nice.
• Main floor was arranged nicely with room for 6 to dine and a comfortable living room with large windows. The beds were really comfortable, nice linens were plentiful. The bathrooms were clean, large. We cooked almost all our meals. Suggest more flatware, new knives, a large cutting board. Nice glass containers for leftovers. New non-stick cookware, toaster, coffee pot, and electric griddle all worked well. Suggest an icemaker.
• The damp basement was really the only bummer for us. Two people ended up sleeping on the living room couches. We didn't sleep in The Hut. Without a bathroom and with two little kids, just didn’t work for us. It's a cool little space though with a great hot tub! Recommend adding an outdoor shower.
The hosts are excellent communicators. They answered our questions promptly before and during our stay. We feel they truly want to offer people a great VRBO option. Many thanks Robert and Jennifer!
We had a wonderful quick weekend get away with our pooch. It is a beautiful property and we had fun exploring the local trails and activities. The outdoor setting is extremely relaxing and I can’t wait to go back.
