Situatedwithin the hub of Quito’s shopping district, this park boasts lush green lawns,tree-lined paths, a number of sports fields and a botanic garden. Relax andunwind in what is known as “New York’s Central Park in Quito”.
Explore the park’s walking path networkand stop by its attractions. Visit on weekends to see sports fields fill upwith local Quiteños, battling out stiff contests. Bring your own sports gearand use the park’s basketball, tennis or volleyball facilities for some exercise. Join a game of soccer with locals the country’s mostpopular game welcomes any and all comers.
For lunch, bring a picnic to the park’swide lawns. Watch as people walk their dogs or fly kites in ideal conditions.On the park’s southern side, a small pond attracts people wanting to feed ducksor paddleboat on the water. Paddleboats can be rented nearby.
Nearby, the Jardín Botánico de Quito(Botanical Garden of Quito) is a great place to spot species of native plantsfrom the Andes and Ecuadorian highlands. Stroll by its collection of over 1,200species of orchid. Afterwards, take a seat at its small café and enjoy refreshments.
In the western area of the park, findthe La Carolina Vivarium, a menagerie of local snakes and lizards. After seeingsome live creatures, learn about their past, present and future at the EcuadorianMuseum of Natural Science, just a short walk away.
Find Parque La Carolina in Quito’s businessdistrict. The park is open daily and charges no admission, though someattractions may charge entry. Get there using the city’s trolleybuses or driveand use the park’s paid street parking. The park is close to several shoppingmalls, cafés and restaurants.
