"We had such a relaxing and peaceful visit here! We were visiting the area for my nephew’s graduation from Texas Tech, and the drive into Lubbock is easy and pretty - so nice to visit with family there but also have a few days of quiet family time in Quitaque. Caprock Canyons is less than 4 minutes drive from the house and a highlight of our trip. The home itself is spacious, charming, and welcoming, with historic character, comfortable beds and bedding, plenty of hot water and good towels, and a great kitchen set-up with dishes and utensils for a large family. The outdoor space is inviting with covered porches, outdoor games, a secret hideout tree our kids adored, and gorgeous sunrises, sunsets, and starry nights. Communication with our host was friendly and efficient. Thanks for a great stay!"

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Quitaque?
The best area to stay in Quitaque is near Caprock Canyon State Park & Trailway, as this is the primary attraction in the region. The park itself offers a range of accommodation options, including campsites for tents and RVs, as well as a few cabins. Staying within the park puts you right at the heart of the natural beauty, with direct access to hiking trails, wildlife viewing, and the stunning red rock formations that define the canyon. The main park entrance is off Ranch Road 1065.For those who prefer a more traditional hotel experience, the small town of Quitaque, located just a few miles from the park entrance, offers a limited number of lodges and motels. This area is convenient for accessing local eateries and supplies, and it provides a comfortable base after a day of exploring the park.
When is the best time to go to Quitaque?
The best time to visit Quitaque, Texas, for pleasant weather and outdoor activities is during the spring (April and May) and autumn (September and October) months.During these periods, the temperatures are generally mild and comfortable, making it ideal for exploring Caprock Canyon State Park & Trailway, which is a major draw to the area. You'll find it easier to enjoy hiking, biking, and wildlife viewing without the intense heat of summer or the chill of winter. The park is well-known for its rugged canyons and the Official State Bison Herd of Texas.Summer (June to August) can be quite hot, often reaching high temperatures that might make extended outdoor excursions less comfortable. While facilities at the state park are available year-round, the cooler months are generally preferred by those looking to spend significant time outside.Winter (November to March) brings colder temperatures and the possibility of snow or ice, which can affect travel plans and make outdoor activities challenging.
