Great base camp for exploring the Catlins
"This was a great base camp for exploring the Catlins. Beds were clean and comfortable, although I felt I had to wipe down the kitchen before using it. The property was amazing! Beautiful views of the estuary, a peaceful place to walk in the mornings, and good view of stars at night."

"We enjoyed another lovely stay at Surat Bay Lodge with Esther & Jack, who warmly welcomed us and our children back. Our boys loved helping to feed the chickens again, trying their hands at fishing and eating some of what Dad had caught fresh off the on-site BBQ. And I got to see a big sea lion bull ..."

Great little getaway
"Lovely, warm little bach, and would be enough living / bathroom space with 4 people too. The kitchen was well-equipped and it's only a short walk down to a beautiful beach. Would definitely recommend! The bach catches a lot of sun too, so it's bright and cheerful during the day. Only slightly negative comment: Watch your head on the shelves above the bed upstairs!"

"Can't get better than this if you're looking for an old-school, inexpensive, fuss-free getaway in one of the most beautiful & unspoiled locations you could find. You won't even be disturbed by your mobile phone ... fantastic! Thanks to our very obliging hosts; Mum & I stopped here for 1 night but couldn't bring ourselves to leave that quickly. You have been warned."

"We enjoyed another lovely stay at Surat Bay Lodge with Esther & Jack, who warmly welcomed us and our children back. Our boys loved helping to feed the chickens again, trying their hands at fishing and eating some of what Dad had caught fresh off the on-site BBQ. And I got to see a big sea lion bull waddle all the way up the beach on one of my walks. Feels like a return to our own beach bach."
