Last-Minute Spring Break Getaway
We booked this very last-minute for our Spring Break trip to RP. We are frequent visitors of RP, but this is the first time we've stayed at Esmerelda. The resort is not yet finished, which we knew when booking, but the room was quite nice. ABOUT THE RESORT/STAY: Unfortunately the pool is not heated, and the weather wasn't that great, so our kids couldn't use the pool. They do have a hot tub, but it was quite full given the weather. The building only had 1 elevator operational, so it took FOREVER to get up/down the floors. I know we were on vacation, but there are times we just use the room to rest (given that we have two young kids). There was only one bedroom equipped with a smart TV so the kids struggled during downtime because there was limited channels for viewing (unless in bed). We did have an "incident" one night of drunk patrons visiting our room (twice) banging on the door asking to be let in (wrong room, obviously). My husband was able to chase them off and immediately informed security who did take care of the issue, we were told. Although there is a no-smoking/no-substance policy for the resort, there was unfortunately someone smoking so it limited the ability of opening the doors for the view and ocean sounds, which was unfortunate. I did inform the resort upon checkout, and they said security should be notified of that.
The view was gorgeous, the location was nice (closest to Wrecked at the Reef), the grounds were pretty (what's been completed) and well maintained. Room service is available, and the food was good. Every employee we had contact with was very friendly.
I'm not entirely sure we'd stay here again given the option, but who knows. Maybe as they open more phases things will improve.
