"The hotel is in a small town not far from Decorah Iowa, and Lanesboro MN. I chose the hotel because of location to the local caves. Checkin experience was excellent. I had a nice room upgrade to a larger King room that had a kitchenette. I found the space to be very clean, although the hotel can use some updating. For a small town hotel, this was a good choice. There are a few attractions nearby, though not a lot."

"Overall, everything was quite nice. However, the website said to check in after 2:00pm. I arrived around 4:00 or 4:30pm, and my room was not ready yet. I was told that the staff person cleaning it was "very slow." I was offered another room and had to wait about 20 minutes for it to be ready. Aside from that, no other complaints, and I liked having a mini fridge and a microwave in the room."

Root River Retreat

"The Root River Retreat was a very comfortable place to stay. From the welcoming of homebaked cookies to the comfort of the couch and bed, this place was a great home base for our visit with family in SE Minnesota. Great location and convenient to find. Parking was easy with a dedicated driveway space. Garage to store things if needed during your stay. Kitchenette had enough for us to function well. Would stay again and would recommend for others."

Steps to Root River: Home w/ Large Yard!

"There house was perfect for our needs . We didn’t spend much time there. The full bathroom with shower is upstairs. Plan accordingly. The half bath downstairs really needs a working door. A lot of chairs and tables! Almost hard to move around with heavy amount of furniture but… could be perfect for the right group! The backyard was lovely and we did enjoy sitting out there."
