Beautiful gardens, informative staff and, of course, wonderful wines make a visit to this Hunter Valley estate a genuine pleasure.

Pepper Tree Wines was established in 1991 and, in a mere 20 years, it has become one of Hunter Valley’s most well-regarded winemakers. It has grown to incorporate vineyards from all over Australia but its main base is here in the heart of the country’s oldest wine-making region. The wide range of products made by the estate and their friendly and informative staff make a visit an interesting and enjoyable experience. Along with red and white wines, Pepper Tree have also branched out into coffee making, while the exquisite gardens that surround the estate – ideal for a stroll – lend it a pleasant, countryside feel.Once you’ve finished admiring the beautifully manicured plants and trees outside, step into the old country house that serves as the winery’s cellar door. The staff inside really know their stuff and are more than willing to answer any questions you may have about any aspect of the wine-making process or the different wines on offer. Whether you’re a connoisseur or a novice, they’ll enhance your experience with their knowledge and good humour.Pepper Tree produces a wide range of wines, from merlot to pinot gris and chardonnay. However, it’s best known for its specialities: semillon and shiraz. The semillon is among the finest in Hunter Valley and experts regard the shiraz as the best in the region for its earthy tones. The grapes for a lot of these varieties are cultivated on the Pepper Tree estate and guests can take a tour to get an insider’s view on the day-to-day operations of a top-class winery. After you’ve finished taking the tour and walking the exquisite grounds, you’ll have the opportunity to buy your favourite wines: enjoy a glass on the terrace or stock up with a case or two to bring home for friends and family. Any visitor to Pepper Tree Wines should also sample a cup of the coffee roasted on site at the Contango Espresso Roasters. The winery is in Pokolbin in Lower Hunter Valley, which is accessible by tour bus, car and also via the Rover Coaches bus service which runs from Sydney through many of the region’s towns. Pepper Tree is open every day, there’s no admission charge and parking is free too.
