Disliked: Check-in, communication
Overall, we had a pleasant stay at this cottage and found it to be clean, comfortable, and well-suited for our family's visit to Pelee Island. Once we were settled in, our stay was enjoyable and without any major issues.
That said, the check-in process was frustrating. We arrived on the island around 4:00 PM, after the 3:00 PM check-in time. The host had previously communicated that the lock code would be sent around 3:00 PM, but we did not receive it for quite some time despite multiple messages. Reaching both the host and VRBO customer support proved difficult. It was tough as well because there was essentially no cell service/data in the immediate area around the property, making communication extremely difficult while waiting outside (we had to drive back to the ferry dock which had better coverage in order to send/receive any messages).
Once we received the code, we also experienced some difficulty with the back door lock, which required multiple attempts before it would unlock (despite correct code entry). Fortunately, the front door worked without issue and we used that entrance for the remainder of our stay.
The cottage itself was generally clean and in good condition. One minor maintenance issue was that the bathroom door and one of the bedroom doors did not close properly and required significant force to latch.
The property did ultimately meet our expectations overall and we enjoyed our stay at Pelee Island. However certainly improved communication
