Delve into the life and work of one of Medellín’s favourite sons at this museum that is situated in his former residence.

One of Medellín’s most beloved modern artists is celebrated in the Pedro Nel Gómez Museum and House, an immersive exhibition space dedicated to the life and work of this illustrious man. Browse through Gómez’s old personal library, admire his famous murals and gain insight into the history of the city where he lived.

In 1975, Gómez’s family founded a museum in honour of his work. He continued to live in the house until his death in 1984, at which point it wholly became a museum open to the public. Take a guided tour of the great artist’s former residence to learn about his life, his influences and his legacy.

Make your way through the museum’s 10 exhibition rooms, which are decorated elegantly in a theme of brown and white. Gómez was most famous for his fabulous murals, and you will certainly be able to see some of these on the walls of the museum. Perhaps more interesting, though, are the other features of this eclectic art collection. Gómez’s watercolours, oil paintings, sculptures and wood carvings are all on display as well.

Explore the artist’s personal library, which is open to the public. Here you will find an insight into Gómez’s influences and beliefs, as you see which books and documents he considered worth keeping on hand.

You can reach the Pedro Nel Gómez Museum and House, which is located in central Medellín, via the Caribe or Universidad subway stations. Alternatively, the city’s northern bus terminal is a 5-minute taxi journey away. The museum is open every day from morning until late afternoon. Nearby attractions include the Joaquin Antonio Uribe Botanical Gardens and the University of Antioquia.
