The place was clean. I didn’t see any bugs. It was a basic room. There is a nice rainfall shower head but the water gets a warm as room temperature at best. I was satisfied with my stay and would probably stay again. The area is good and convenient.
Disappointing stay — important things to know before booking
I wanted to leave a detailed review because some things about Hotel Costa Azul were quite different from what we expected.
Breakfast is not a buffet. The hotel advertises breakfast, but you are served a specific portion by the staff. You cannot choose freely what or how much you eat, and there is no buffet where you can take what you like. For us, this was a significant difference from what we expected from the description.
Housekeeping is also something to be aware of. Our room was not cleaned as part of the regular stay. Cleaning comes at a substantial additional daily charge, which we found surprising for a hotel stay.
The property itself needs maintenance. Several areas look worn and could use some attention and upkeep. The hotel has potential, but the overall condition makes it feel less cared for than the photos and description might suggest.
Staff: The kitchen staff were generally friendly and helpful, although their attitude could sometimes be a little inconsistent — friendly one moment and rather cranky the next. The reception staff were the bigger issue for us. Unfortunately, we found them generally unhelpful when we needed assistance or information.
There were some positives, but overall I think future guests should know these things before booking, particularly the breakfast arrangement, extra housekeeping charges, and general state of maintenance.
Good location though
Terrible client service. The property canceled mi reservation the same day of my arrival (3 hrs before my check-in), without any solution or alternative; leaving me to pay 3x times my original budget in another hotel.
The rooms are only big enough for a full sized bed. Once you check-in, you have to sign this agreement that if you leave certain stains on the bed (such as blood) on the towels, bed sheets and top sheets that you have to pay anywhere from $5-$20 more. The first thing I thought when I saw that was “What type of clientele do this hotel accept if you have to sign this agreement at check-in?” I’ll let you figure that one out.
We booked two rooms and one of them didn’t have running water. Both rooms only had one accessible electric plug meaning only one phone or anything requiring electricity could be plugged in at a time. I have a CPAP machine so therefore, neither I or my husband could charge our phones at night while we slept.
Also, we had takeout food to eat later, and we were told we would have to pay an additional $5 to place a refrigerator in our room. No less than 5 minutes later another staff member came to our room and told us that the refrigerator didn’t work so we can place our takeout food in the employee’s refrigerator.
We left that same night and booked a room at Hotel El Panamá. It’s worth the extra money.
