I arrived late, and the manager texted to ask if I needed anything (very nice) but then ghosted after telling me my Verification was incomplete (I had missed a text with the link). So I had to sit for two hours in my rental car, on hold with the Verification Department. You must create an account with a fraud-prevention company, scan your driver’s license, submit a facial-recognition selfie, provide pages of personal, vehicle, and credit card information (hello – I already paid). It’s invasive and creepy. Eventually you get another link requiring yet another account and an app—so you can use your phone to unlock the door (my nightmare). But before unlocking the door you must complete a survey about the apartment (that you haven’t seen yet), and if you one-star anything, you must upload a photo to prove it, so you upload photos of the dark front door or your screaming face. All several times b/c two bars, app crashing. The next day, the manager assured me that the company process is the same for all guests (naturally).Inside, it’s adequate—just an overpriced, sad beige apartment with polyester sheets, pee-smelling carpets, and predatory landlord vibes. The kitchen is fine but there are no dining chairs or barstools, only the small desk facing the wall or the couch (the popular option). The air conditioner works, and other than the pee-carpets and questionable couch, the place was clean and had enough supplies for my two-days stay. My only one-star experience with VRBO.
