10/10 Excellent
"I had the most wonderful stay before and after the Choquequirao trek, and in fact the stay before was so wonderful and hospitable that I completed the trek a day early so I could return for one more night. The hosts are so sweet and thoughtful, and Katherine went above and beyond when I returned from the trek a bit sick, offering me honey for my tea from their personal kitchen area. The hammock is the perfect place to relax, as are the terraces or patios available outside every room. The rooms are cozy and spacious, and the animals on the grounds are the icing on the cake if you, like me, enjoy petting a bunny on occasion! "

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Pacobamba?
The best area to stay in Pacobamba is generally within the central village itself, as it's the primary hub for visitors and offers the most convenience. The central village of Pacobamba is small and easily navigable on foot. It's built around the main plaza, where you'll find the local church, municipal buildings, and a few small shops and eateries. The streets are mostly unpaved but well-maintained, offering a genuine glimpse into Andean village life. For travellers seeking an authentic cultural experience, staying in the central village is ideal. You'll be within walking distance of the local market, where you can observe daily life and interact with residents. It's also the starting point for local guides who can arrange visits to nearby traditional weaving communities or provide information on local customs.Couples looking for a peaceful retreat will appreciate the quiet evenings in the village. Accommodation options, while not luxurious, often provide a comfortable base with a personal touch, sometimes in guesthouses run by local families.
When is the best time to go to Pacobamba?
The best time to visit Pacobamba is during the dry season, which runs from May to October.During these months, you'll experience clear skies and pleasant temperatures, making it ideal for exploring the region's outdoor attractions. The reduced rainfall means trekking trails are more accessible and river levels are generally lower, which is great for activities like white-water rafting on the Apurímac River. This period is particularly good for active travellers and those looking to fully experience the natural landscape. The shoulder seasons, April and November, can also be good options. While there might be occasional showers, the landscape is often greener, and there are fewer visitors, offering a more tranquil experience.
