"Fantastic location. Ideal for what we needed but also really rural-feeling and peaceful. We found it quiet and charming. We enjoyed wandering in amongst the old orchard and down through the copse, across the scrubland that forms part of the floodplain of the Tyne. It was good to know there are badgers around although we weren’t lucky enough to see anyway. The dawn chorus was impressive. Very pleasant indeed. "Where to start, it was cheaper than most places in Newcastle but still wasn't worth what we paid. No air-conditioning, the kitchen drain smelled terrible, the toilet leaked, there were toenails in the bathroom, originally put in a two bedded room when there was 3 of us, very hot stuffy room, unable to open window properly as there was a chain lock preventing us. Beds were clean and fairly comfy."

"Lovely room. Got a complimentary upgrade for my birthday and was very touched by this surprising but very well received gesture! Such wonderful staff. Really accommodating and no question was too silly! Bath and shower were a highlight! Room a little noisy but was expected ,given the amazing location. You got a real feeling for the thriving, bustling, happy night life that is Newcastle! I loved the breakfast choices and the breakfast staff were all super friendly. Overall a very impressive stay and would thoroughly recommend!"

"A wonderful place to stay, very picturesque grounds and its history with additions give it a unique and warm feeling. You can tell that although the castle has had extensive work done to keep it in good condition, it still maintains a royal feeling. The range of rooms are good to suit all types of stays, there was a wedding going on while I was there and I can imagine it’s a wonderful place to host such an event. All the staff were very welcoming and helpful, from the reception desk to the restaurant staff and the cleaners. The food was amazing, and the restaurant space again was special without feeling too intimidating with very kind and accommodating staff. I would highly recommend a stay here, well worth the trip!"

"Impressive and pleasant property. Large comfortable room and very comfortable bed. Extremely limited casual dining menu and mediocre results. The fine dining menu was more interesting and produced better results. Decent wine list. The bar staff had a difficult time taking orders and producing drinks. Allow a lot of time and patience for this activity. The television control was absolutely inscrutable, and the directions provided in the room manual were not correct. The telephone in the room was non-functional which is unacceptable in an establishment of this type. Yes, I would return."
