Inviting, Rustic Beach front cottage on Beautiful Lake Michigan
This rustic and charming 3 bedroom cottage has been in our family for over 100 years. It can sleep 7 adults plus we have 2 cots that can be pulled out for kids. The cottage is nestled in the woods on the shore of Lake Michigan, 3 miles from Oostburg, Wisconsin. Our wonderful Sweetbriar creek is out our back door with beautiful Lake Michigan out the front door. This cottage is a joy to be at during the warmer months of spring and summer, But is also a cozy peaceful place to get away from the hustle and bustle of our increasingly hectic modern world in the early and late fall months.
(IMPORTANT information... Please bare with us as the beach is constantly changing in size and in the last 3 years the Lake levels have been relatively high. Luckily the sand and beach has come back and is filling in.
* Update April 2024 there is beach for walking and swimming, playing. The beach is coming back. Inside our cottage there is ample room for cooking, baking, and dining together. There are games, tables, nooks for reading, a wood burning fireplace in the living room and a sunny sitting room facing the lake. Also we offer wireless internet and an HD flat screen TV. for local channels and for your streaming plus a cottage phone line. The deck looks out over the lake and In the morning our sunbathed deck provides a wonderful place to sit, read, visit and sip morning coffee. (We provide a table umbrella and sand Beach umbrellas). (also available beach towels and some hats.) This deck becomes shaded in the mid afternoon as the sun drops behind the White Pines providing relief from the late afternoon heat.
As evening comes on, building an outdoor fire, enjoying dinner around the fire ring or on the deck provide a fitting finale to the day.
Particular activities for this natural area include taking a beach walk or a bike ride in the wooded one lane shaded road that parallels the meandering creek. You can admire the natural boreal forest with its Canadian Hemlock, Sugar Maples, Beech trees, and native ferns.
Well behaved dogs are always welcome.
Close by are an abundance of activities including- the Kohler art museum, state parks, bike paths and quaint little towns.
For more places to visit, walk, and swim at a Beach you can take a quick drive north to Kohler Andrea State Park (North)Beach. It is a 5 minute drive ! Approximately 4 miles away. Very fun to walk, collect beach stones and drift wood, picnic and swim, dogs are allowed in certain places on a leash. There is also a visitor center for kids and Adults to enjoy. Entry is 3.00 / day pass. ( It is a State Park so fees apply but if you already have a yearly sticker you are all set. (and if you choose, there is plenty of room at the park to social distance and to enjoy the beach safely.) You might also look into Amsterdam State Park or Sheboygan City Beach for more Lakefront fun. Sheboygan also has a wonderful Library and Children's museum to visit. )
We hope that you enjoy your time at our cottage as much as we do.
Thank you and We hope that you will stay with us. Thank you for looking. The Byrns Family

What a special place! If you are a fan of Lake Michigan it would be hard to find a better spot to enjoy it. The cabin is so charming and the view/access to the beach is perfect. We had our dogs with us and the completely fenced deck was such a great amenity. Everything was very clean and well stocked. If possible we will stay here again. We enjoyed this home and its location very very much.
Welcoming, beautiful, and serene ❤️ We could not have asked for a more lovely beach cottage to enjoy our family relax time. Thank you so much for everything !
I didn’t leave for 4 days except to take long walks with my dog. It was very relaxing and so quiet. This is the fourth year that my dog and I have been here and we will be back again next year! So nice to have a lot of beach to walk on.
We had a wonderful time spending the end of summer at this hidden gem. Our boys thoroughly enjoyed the extra toys in the back room and children's books. We loved sleeping to the sounds of the lake waves. Thank you for sharing your family's cottage with us!
The cabin is great, the location wonderful, quiet, remote, and peaceful. There are a ton of games, books, and even some sand toys to enjoy. We had a great time relaxing on the beach and playing games and reading on the porch. We didn't note the lack of A/C or that it's a charcoal grill but we had a great time and would come back. You can tell the house has been loved by generations and it feels cozy
We enjoyed are weekend stay at the cottage, especially sitting on the deck watching the waves, boats and sky. We could see the Milky Way one night and we watched a lightning storm cell make it’s way across Lake Michigan another night which was amazing! The beds were very firm which my spouse enjoyed more than I did. The cottage is charming, quiet (except for sound of the waves!) and very close to the water. It feels like you are visiting a place that one family has loved for decades, rather than a cookie cutter VRBO listing. The drive to Sheboygan is quick which was nice.
This cabin is a true gem. It has clearly been loved for generations and it was so nice to spend a week here with my family. The beach is perfection, tons of nice sand and the water is shallow and clear. We heard waves every night throughout the cabin. The kitchen is better stocked than most VRBOs and using the Revere Ware and well-seasoned cast iron pans was a fun cooking treat! The queen bed was comfortable and I usually struggle with rental beds. The twin beds seemed a bit too bouncy for my taste, but I never tried sleeping on them myself. Our 8 and 10 year olds had no complaints. The game room is stocked with so many fun items for young and old and the beachside fire pit is great for the evenings. There were a small amount of beach toys (we brought many of our own to supplement) and during our stay there were 2 umbrellas and 3 or 4 plastic adirondack chairs that are easily carried down to the beach and water. There is a charcoal grill that is on its last legs - might need to be replaced for the 2025 season. We would love to come back!
We love the Oostburg-Cedar Grove lakefront area and come here often. Overall, we had a lovely weekend on the lake. The house is right on the water with a nice sandy beach (not rocky), and even when inside the house it feels like the water is right there. There is a room where you can hang out inside and still enjoy the beach because it’s so close to the water. There’s also a great selection of board games and a nice fire pit area where we had lovely lakeside bonfires every night.
The house is a charming old cabin with lots of character. However, the character comes with a few things that are less than luxurious. The mattresses are uncomfortable. The shower’s weak water pressure made showers take 2-3x as long as normal. There was a dangerous hole in the deck area that one of us fell into but luckily wasn’t injured. (We then covered the hole with rocks.) Overall, however, we enjoyed our stay and would return.
Coming to the oostburg area on Lake Michigan with my kids has been how we kick off the end of the summer/beginning of school and getting in some grandparent time. This year we stayed at the Byrns‘ Cottage and it did not disappoint. The cottage is full of decades of memories and history that make it feel like home, not a sterile rental property. Plenty of windows for the lake breeze to blow through and keep the house cool. We enjoyed playing games and putting puzzles together. The kitchen is fully stocked and ready for you to whip up anything your heart desires. Comfy beds and plenty of space. Giant ferns in the front are absolutely gorgeous. We got to see baby birds fledge from a nest built in one of the white cedar trees.
I loved perusing the various vendor tents at the farmer‘s market in nearby Sheboygan as well as hopping over to the children’s museum and exploring Kohler-Andrae state park.
Of course a favorite part was playing in the sand and hopping the waves. We spent countless hours on the beach and in the water, and taking walks along the shoreline. We feel so blessed to have been welcomed into the Byrns‘ cottage and are already planning for next year‘s trip. Best two weeks of the year!
Everything was exceptionally clean and ready for us. We enjoyed long walks on the beach and the surrounding roads. It always feels like home! Didn’t even get in the car (why would we?) for the whole 5 days. Hope to be back for year 6 next fall!
Can't say enough how relaxing out stay was at the cottage. So easy to get some rest, hearing Lake Michigan just outside your window. Wonderful cottage and great area to explore.
My family and I had a great time at this cabin located right on Lake Michigan. It was the perfect family getaway for the summer. It has all you need to relax at home and truly enjoy some quality time with family.
Another wonderful stay at Byrnside. Words cannot describe the beauty, wonder and relaxation experienced during our stay. The lake and beach were absolutely perfect. From digging holes and making sandcastles to riding the waves on the sandbar, so much fun to be had. The cottage itself is full of family history, both intriguing and very heartwarming. Sheboygan is just a hop skip away and has the BEST farmers market, excellent children’s museum, beautiful waterfront and many many choices for dining. Our family loves coming to stay for our end of summer/beginning of school start up and it’s just so awesome every time!
