"I loved this hotel! It was located right in the JR station which was so very helpful when it took me a very long time to travel from Haneda airport in Tokyo to Hakodate via shinkansen. I was soooo relieved when I realized I didn't have to figure out where the hotel was, it was literally just right there!
I lost my phone charger and cord in transit and they were kind enough to lend me one and give me directions to the nearest electronics store. I know a little bit of Japanese so that helped with the communication as they didn't know too much English.
One super cool perk of this hotel is that they had what was called the pillow corner. In a part of the lobby there was an area where if you wanted a different pillow from the standard issue you could "shop" around in this super cool little pillow library. There were signs and labels indicating the softness and hardness level and displays showing what material was inside the pillow. It was soooo amazing! I like a harder pillow so I was happy to find one that fit my preferences.
The hotel is so perfectly located right across the way from the morning market. Very convenient! And I could see Mount Hakodate from my window.
I only stayed two days in Hakodate, it was my first time in Hokkaido and I split my trip between here and Sapporo. I really super enjoyed it and wish I had scheduled more time on my trip from this area.
If I ever return I will definitely stay again at this hotel. Highly recommend!"
"Excellent property in the hot spring district. Right next to public transportation ( train ). In house hot spring was very good, breakfast and traditional Japanese seafood dinner were excellent as well. Would happily come back."
Hakodate Yunokawa Onsen Umi to Akari / Hewitt Resort
10/10 Excellent
"The rooftop onsen is so great at this hotel—there’s an infinity pool edge where you can look out into the horizon and sky that is so beautiful to see (there’s a section outside where you can lie down in the water; they also provide women towels to shield against the wind). I would come back to this hotel for this experience alone! The food was pretty good too—stand-outs include the scallop, amaebi, kanpachi, and the crab legs! As for my room, I splurged on the junior suite because of the tub—while soaking, you can look out the window and watch the clouds go by, a wonderful feeling. Lastly, the staff offered a welcome gift of dango—probably the best I’ve ever had. "
"We are a family of 4 (husband, wife, 8 yr old boy and 1.5 yr old boy). We stayed in this property for 4 days and 3 nights. The property is in excellent condition and very clean (tiptop clean). It is a seaside property and the view of both the city and the sea is spectacular. Although there are only 4 of us, it can accomodate up to 7 people. It has 2 queen beds and 3 twins which is ideal for a big family. The parking accross the road can accomodate 3 big cars or vans. We rented a car on the entire duration of our stay. Driving is preferred because we don't know how to get around. They also have taxi or uber in the area if you prefer not to drive. I don't know about the bus. It looks like a long walk to the bus stop. All the attractions and restaurants are close by (driving). I would love to just stay in the place and just relax but we only have limited time to visit the city. Sunset and night lights are beautiful. The check in and check out process is also easy and straight forward. There are rules that are typical to Japanese hotel/household which is easy to follow. Only drawback is we should have stayed 1 more day to just enjoy the house. Thanks Nesaki Native. We will definitely go back! PS: We only used 1 bed because the floor is so clean that my boys opted to just sleep in the floor mats with blankets."
"Hotel’s buffet is good. But if you are staying for more than 1 night, you might not want to pay for half board as the spread for breakfast and dinner doesn’t change. Otherwise, hotel is clean and comfortable. You need a car to move around though as it is not close to town centre."
"We wanted to conclude our four week stay in Japan with something special and it was! This ryokan was so beautiful and the staff was outstanding. Our room was spacious and well appointed. The onsen was also spacious and the baths fabulous. Breakfast was delicious and authentic. We couldn't be happier. A wonderful memory!"
