About this property

Entire place

You'll have the entire home to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.

The Manor at Glen Jean Meadows

Transport yourself immediately into the heart of traditional southern West Virginia with this spacious, historic home on a hilltop surrounded by four quiet acres of grass and trees. This is a former coal company superintendent's house built in the 1920s when Glen Jean was a coal boom town. The property is ideally located in the New River Gorge - minutes from whitewater rafting, National Park activities, The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve and rails-to-trails paths.
The space

You're also a short drive to Fayetteville (voted one of America's coolest small towns), Beckley (a local commercial hub), and Oak Hill. At the house, you'll find most of your time spent on the very large covered side porch, by the designated fire pit area, or in the backyard playing badminton, cornhole and croquet. Inside you'll find all original wood flooring, a wide, wood staircase, three sets of French Doors connecting all of the main areas, and large rooms perfect for entertaining. With the home's pre-war construction, you'll have a classic mix of old West Virginia's historic charm but with spacious rooms, high ceilings and large windows -- especially good for letting in the cool night air (as Glen Jean is on the Fayette Plateau, evenings consistently drop to the mid 60s each night, even when afternoon temps are in the traditional summer ranges of the 70s to 80s.) After driving up the approximately 200 yard long private, tree-lined paved drive to the hilltop, you'll treat yourself to large accommodations including a spacious living room, dining room, TV room and you'll have access to a full size garage to keep your gear out of the elements. And there's no need to keep your music low as the neighbors are out of earshot.

Guests can access the entire home with the exception of the basement.

Wonderful getaway and near ACE Adventures
Lovely place to stay for a big group 6-8 and a pet (the pet ended up staying home). 4 bedrooms for adults and 1 for a child, would recommend the pull out bed downstairs if an adult was to use the child bedroom. Beautiful historic details. Many TVs but we didn’t use them much for our getaway and played board games. Ping pong table was a fun addition, corn hole available but we brought a frisbee and the backyard was wide enough. Firepit looked lovely but it rained the whole weekend. The whole property is sequestered enough from neighbors and surrounded by trees but you can hear some street traffic but the AC and fan indoors made nice white noise. Check in and out was super easy and George was a great host with clear instructions, easy to get ahold of, and kindly called me to let me know there was minor cosmetic damage to the house due to a storm the previous weekend (had no issues because of this). Moreover this place is near Ace Adevntures and was great to come home to after a long day of rafting, just sitting with family or spending time on the porch. Would definitely come back!

Great place to stay for a rafting weekend
We enjoyed our stay - especially the covered side porch and fire pit out back. The free firewood was a generous bonus to the weekend.

New River Gorge Getaway
We had a lovely 3-night stay and found the home very accessible to the great outdoor activities that drew us to the area! The house sits in a private park-like yard. The owners were communicative and accommodating and left some nice touches like Hershey kisses in the fridge and plenty of helpful notes. We would absolutely stay here again and recommend it to others.

Easter at Glen Jean Meadows
We picked this house because of its location half way between our daughters' houses. 10 of us stayed for three nights over Easter. The house is old and full of character- everyone liked it. Everything worked well, though the kitchen and bathrooms were quite small. The fire pit was perfect and the large yards provided lots of room for the children to play. Nearby is the New River Gorge Park which is excellent and just up the road is the "ghost town" of Thurmond- well worth a visit. The town of Glen Jean is a bit sad but overall we enjoyed our stay a lot. The owner was excellent with all communications.

Wonderful environment/roomy and spacious home
This was a very nice property for a gathering of families. Many bedrooms and multiple bathrooms. The property was large enough to play sports games and had a nice fire pit. The owner was friendly, responsive, and helpful. the property is secluded but also close to stores/restaurants. The local BBQ restaurant is delicious.

Highly Recommend This Property
This property was even more wonderful than the pictures! George and Amy have thought of everything you might need or want for your stay. The beds were comfortable, which is a big plus for me. The kids played ping pong on the sun porch and looked for fall leaves on the beautiful grounds while the adults enjoyed a glass of wine on the lovely porch. It was perfect for us! I couldn't be more enthusiastic! Anne Blankinship
