Beautiful Log Home on Quiet Private Lake

The Cottage is a custom built Log Home designed for the entire family. It is located on a private lake 350km North East of Toronto. Loons and beavers will greet you as you sit on the dock in the morning! If you are looking for a quiet and peaceful getaway....this cottage is for you! This is my 4th Year renting and have truly enjoyed sharing the cottage with everyone.
Whether you like to sit and relax, canoe, fish or just lay out on the dock, you can do it all at the cottage. The night skies are especially dark and stargazing is a favorite thing to do! The Cottage can sleep up to 6 people with room on the couches for 2 more!
This reservation has a Super Flexible cancellation policy - refunds will be issued up to 14 day prior to the check in date.
A 100% refund is provided for travellers cancelling at least 14 days before check-in. A 50% refund is provided for travellers cancelling from 7 to 13 days before check-in. No refunds are provided for travellers cancelling less than 7 days prior to check-in. CanadaStays Booking Fees are refundable if you cancel within 48 hours of placing your booking request.
Our house rules: primary renter must be 25 or older, smoking permitted outside only,no parties or events, pets permitted. I also have a large aviary so you can bring along your pet birds budgies canary, cockatoos parrots etc and your furry friends like hamsters bunnies gerbils too
I have a reptile cage for your lizards and snakes etc. no family member should miss out on the family vacation
No Smoking Inside the Cottage... Stoop & Scoop rule for all pets

Fabulous starry nights

Very obliging and helpful host with incredible knowledge about the skies. Convenient log home with comfortable amenities indoors, an outdoor fire area and canoes to tour the lovely lake. A wonderful stay!

The log home is the perfect place to spend quality time with family and unwind in nature. Gary was extremely helpful with getting us acquainted with the property. Sharing his love for the stars was a special treat and was an incredible experience. It's a great location to see the night sky. The weather was amazing, and we were able to enjoy all the amenities - canoeing, time on the dock and hammocks, campfires, and more. Thanks for making our first family vacation memorable!

Mid week break away

Very relaxing time with family in quiet and peaceful cottage. Nice fishing. Gary made us feel very welcome. Really enjoyed the stargazing and the views of the meteor shower

Lovely cabin

We enjoyed staying at Gary's cabin. It's rustic, cozy, and had everything we needed. He's a great host, he met up in person upon our arrival just to give us a short tour and intro to the cottage and it's workings, along with offering to take us out on his pontoon boat on the lake. The kitchen had all cooking essentials and tools with a couple options for brewing coffee.. drip or press. The lake is shallow but great for canoe trips to enjoy the scenery, canoe supplied by Gary. We fed the birds from our hand off the porch swing and watched the other wildlife from the cottage.Washer and dryer was a bonus to have.

Best View

If you are looking for a peaceful relaxing time this is the spot for you. At night it gets so dark you can see all the stars. Gary was super helpful and attentive. Would highly recommend.

Amazing weekend of memories

Gary met us at the cottage and gave us the grand tour, we had the most incredible scenic weekend away with our family and especially enjoyed the experience of Gary’s telescopes!! We got to see sun spots on the sun and go and explore the dark night reserve! Gary is a very laid back and kind host and we can’t wait to go back!!

Excellent stay

The cottage was perfect for us. Full of character, lovely location, a great place for us to sit out on the swing-seat and take in the quiet, the lake, colours, chipmunks and birdlife. Gary was a very helpful host, inviting us to a telescope star-gazing evening, which was a high point of our stay. Highly recommended.

We had a wonderful time. Gary is a great host. He was very welcoming, friendly and warm. His cottage was lovely. Perfect for a quiet retreat. The lake in the early morning and evening is so calm, just sit back and take it all in. In the early morning, you can see the mist lifting off the lake, perfect for that classic cottage picture.If you enjoy bass fishing, this lake is a great choice. We caught a great number of 3 to 4 pounders.Gary is very passionate about astronomy as many previous renters have mentioned. He shared his vast knowledge with us. It made our stay that much more memorable.Thank you Gary for your hospitality. We had an unforgettable time.

Peaceful Weekend Getaway

We had a fantastic weekend with perfect weather. We enjoyed canoeing and playing in the warm lake. At night, we had a lovely evening in front of a campfire, relishing the peace and quiet away from the city noise. Gary warmly welcomed us and provided all the necessary information about the cottage. The best part was that our furry friends were also welcome, which we truly appreciated. Thanks for the wonderful getaway!

Log cabin was exactly as described. Beautiful inside and out. Lots of peace and quiet. Dogs were free to roam and swim. Fishing was great. Gary was very attentive and easy going. Will definitely consider going back!

Great place

We had a great time at Gary's cottage. It was clean, private and right on the lake. Gary was an excellent host and he even invited us to look at the stars from his observatory. We learned alot about stars and galaxies that night. Thank you Gary, it was pleasure meeting you and we hope to return one day!

Great getaway

Gary is an excellent host! The lake is very quiet and peaceful! Loved watching the meteor shower on the dock in our hammock 🙂 I have never seen so many stars, it was beautiful!!! And if you want to take star watching to a whole different level, hopefully you’re lucky enough that Gary will invite you to his observatory

Our group booked a reading retreat getaway and Gary's cottage was the perfrct location. We met Gary upon check in and he provided a tour. Its a beautiful log cabin with lots of space and situated nicely aming tall shaded trees, and a few steps away from Farm lake. Overall it had everything we needed - comfortable lodging, very private and quiet and stunning lake views. The couches and beds were comfortable. There is no air conditioning but there are fans in every room (we wished we had known as we had brought some and knowing there were lots of fans would have been helpful). We did swim in the lake with some floaties which was lovely. The lake is a bit muddy and weedy so its ideal to bring floaties. Overall, it was a fab weekend. We will be back and Gary was a responsive, kind and gracious host. It is also a great spot for families! Thank you Gary!!

Best Campsite Ever!

My husband and I have always canoe tripped in Algonquin or Killarney in the summer. This year we decided to rent a cabin instead. It was wonderful. There were all the comforts of home plus loons, forest and a lovely quiet lake to paddle. We enjoyed having our standard poodle join in the adventure. Gary was a fabulous host sharing his passion and enthusiasm for astronomy with us. We would happily recommend this location to anyone looking for a quiet cabin getaway.

Fantastic weekend vacation spot

Gary is very friendly and met us there to give us a run down of what we needed to know. The property was very well kept. It is a beautiful open concept log cabin with a beautiful outdoor firepit/ eating area. A nice set of carriage lights led down the path to the dock. The lake was a little shallow with a muddy bottom but still fantastic for swimming. The electric fireplace heats up the cabin very quickly. There are very friendly birds and chipmunks that eat seeds while you're there. Overall very quiet and cozy experience.

Peace & Quiet

Peace & Quiet was what i wanted for this year's birthday trip. And that's what I got here at the cabin house even thought it was labor day long weekend. We had a comfortable stay with a scenic view. Gary is a great host and shared his passion with us - stars and sky. Going to dark sky preserve and seeing saturn with ring and it's moon along with earth's moon was a truly memorable experience. Things i loved at this stay - peace &quiet, privacy,cozey & comfy fully functional house with amenities, being pet friendly and waterfront site. One of my favorite stays so far and 100% recommend!

Not as expected

The surroundings were not inspiring The river was muddy The place needed some serious maintenance and was very dirty, particularly the bathroom, with black mould and rust in the bath, with some pliers instead of a knob for the faucet The outdoor furniture was dirty The balcony was not inviting, very dirty and dusty The fridge and the microwave were not recently cleaned The kitchen sink was not scrubbed The dishes drying rack had some black mould The sofas were smelly, I had to wash the covers myself, and still the smell was present. We left after 2 nights. The only redeeming thing was the host showing us his incredible telescopes and the guided tour to the dark sky reserve observatory. That was really good.

Perfect for some R&R

We spent a week at Gary's cottage, and it was AMAZING! The cottage is beautiful, large, and very clean! Lots of space for sleeping, cooking, eating! The kitchen is well stocked with everything you'd need to cook up a great meal. The outside is the breath taker though - wow, just wow. The hubby and I enjoyed sitting on the porch swing in the mornings, down at the dock through the day, and out by the fire in the evening. We had 4 teenagers with us, and they very much enjoyed going out on the canoes provided and chilling on the dock. Gary was an exceptional host! He took us out to the dark sky preserve. We got to see some very cool equipment and got to see the moon up close. If you have the opportunity to see this, I would 100% recommend! Gary is the dark sky wizard :). He even offered to take us out on his pontoon boat for a tour of the lake. 5/5 stars! Thanks for the amazing week Gary! We will definitely be back again.

What a great getaway we had ,Garys home is so beautiful ,cozy,warm and inviting it’s just wonderful,then onto outside the beautiful porch relaxing on that wonderful swing feeding chipmunks from my hand omg just incredible then onto the dock looking out onto that beautiful lake it was literally a dream ,another bonus we were allowed to bring our big dogs it’s so rare someone allows dogs of any size and doesn’t judge the big guys Gary was wonderful with them giving them so much attention and that to us meant so much because to us they’re our family and did I mention we also brought our kitty who also enjoyed the beautiful views,this was exactly what we were looking for and so much more it’s truly paradise ,thankyou so,so much Gary for your hospitality and for sharing your beautiful home with us we hope to be back soon:)
