We loved the character and location! The staff was awesome and everything was clean. Great value and I cannot say enough good things about the place. We will definitely be back!
Amazing stay, especially on a budget. You get to meet lots of fun and interesting people. The staff is super nice and they keep the place really clean.
Amazing place full of amazing people. Stay here if you want to befriend other cool likeminded travelers from around the country/world. Staying at India House made our trip to New Orleans so amazing!! Will stay there any time I’m back.
Wow, so well decorated! Such a unique place with a cozy outdoor space and swimming pool. Lovely people as well, which made me and my brother feel right at home. We had a nice little room to sleep. Definitely will book here when coming back!
Good price, nice staff, Very trashy lobby, terrible area. Room was better than lobby, but the bathroom didn’t lock and you share the bathroom with other people. If you’re a single guy trying to save money, this place is great, but don’t bring your wife/girlfriend, or kids
Place had awesome vibes. Pool was a nice oasis after sightseeing. Loved the common areas. Plenty of outdoor seating and great coffee. Also the area is great. Walking distance to great restaurants outside the tourist area and I even walked to city park. Def recommended
Great spot, neighborhood pretty good but a couple of surrounding areas not great, but trolley stop really close by, so not really a concern. Staff super helpful, local knowledge always the best. Property itself is the kind of really cool spot you come to know using hostels when travelling.
Had an amazing time at India House! It really was a true hostel experience, getting to talk to many travellers of different walks of life. Easy streetcar access and the neighborhood was very safe.

Liked: Amenities
I liked that they had coffee and a full kitchen we could make our own meals. Very clean and surprising very safe. Could use better pillows and could provide there guess with wash cloths not just a single towel.
It was great - everyone was friendly, including the guests - too short a visit to give a good review !

Structure appeared extremely old; super trippy decor; interesting and unique - very different from typical budget lodging such as a Motel 6. Almost a caricature of a hostel. Might not appeal to all. We stayed in the building next door (I think they called it the "balcony" room - no balcony. It was very small, quiet and we felt safe. Bus and trolley lines were very close. Overall vibe of the place was great.
Perfect budget accommodation. We were in the Green House and had the "Ocean View" room LOL (it overlooks the pool). The beds were comfortable, the AC worked fine, and it was perfectly quiet at night. Never had to wait for the toilet or shower down the hall. The shower was decent but the sink definitely needs more water pressure. Safe area, had no issues parking the car on the street. Would stay here again.
Very clean, great price and decent location (1 min walk from streetcar stop so can get to French Quarter very easily).
Staff very friendly and polite, no issues at all with shared bathrooms, never once had to wait for the shower or toilet and again, all very clean.
Aircon in the rooms, when I went the hostel was fairly empty so not that social but may just have been time of year. All-in-all it’s a great option at an unbelievable price.
The overall experience was good for the price. They have a full kitchen and a laundry room which were very convenient. They provided good customer service. Our room wasn’t ready when we arrived so they gave us an upgrade. The room was clean and the bathroom as well. The house needs better maintenance & cleanliness.

Disliked: Property conditions & facilities
Overall facilities appeared extremely old; fun decor and probably historic - interesting and unique. We had a private room on the second floor which was quite large with two bunk beds on either side of the room. The floor at the center of the room was significantly bowed - it had separated from the wall by about 2 inches and light from the room below was visible and flickered from the first floor ceiling fan. We did not feel safe walking in the center of the room and kept to the edges. Everything else worked for us but if we were to go back, I would avoid the upper floors of the main hostel - they have another house next door, and maybe cabins in the back (might be for staff thought...)
The Indian House is an excellent place to stay. This was my first hostel ever and i enjoyed it! I had a private room with a full bed and stayed in the Jezebel room. From the look of it, i thought the bed would be flat and feel every spring, well I though wrong. The mattress was comfortable but my only complaint slightly was the need of more pillows. The showers were efficient, just wait for the water to get warm and its a go! The shower heads are placed overtop of your head but you can make it work! There is plenty of room to store your food, open kitchen with everything you need in reference to pots pans etc. There is a sitting area with local information, where to eat, what events are happening and areas of NOLA to visit. Indian House owns a whole block with hostels and it is an old home with vintage findings but is very clean, full of history, rustic findings and staff are always in site. The staff are helpful and friendly. The pond with the alligator and bench was one of my favorites; to wake up, make English tea, have a smoke, enjoy the breeze! An excellent stay, great pricing and I will return again!!! This was a pleasure!
- getting blisters and scraping your knuckles every time someone opens your room door - not being able to turn off the fan because the ceiling is too high and the chain doesn't come down within reach, even when you climb onto the bed - no soundproofing, you can hear everything that happens in the bathroom day and night and in the next room - waiting 3 days to get an iron (some people sleep with it!) - a completely messy laundry room and old vertical drum washing machines that don't wash - people who spend hours talking, laughing and partying in the courtyard EVERY night until 3 or 4 in the morning - having to go to sleep somewhere else to be able to sleep peacefully and not be exhausted the next day...! That's what staying here is like. I rather recommend Hostel International on Canal Street instead, closer to the city center, much more respectful (and clean!) and for the same price.
