Riverfront Cabin With Small Beach Short Drive From Nauvoo
Situated along the banks of the Mighty Mississippi just a short drive from Nauvoo, IL, this cute cabin is just the place for you if your ideal day consists of exploring outdoors during the day and resting your weary head at night. Nestled in the middle of nature, this cozy, non-smoking cabin is small, but it has everything you will need including a fully equipped kitchen and full-sized bathroom. You will feel like you are camping, but with more amenities including a new window air conditioning unit. The cabin can comfortably sleep four people, but it will accommodate up to six on the new mattresses and couches. If the steep driveway is a problem, you are welcome to park at the bottom of the hill.
Because there is no TV or internet, you will have plenty of time to explore the grounds. As long as the Mississippi River is not too high, you can spend the day on the beach. Be sure to look for eagles because there is a bald eagle's nest nearby. If you simply want to relax with a good book while the kids play and explore, you will be able to do that on the new deck. With Nauvoo being so close, you could also explore the many attractions in town before heading back to the peaceful riverfront setting. At night, enjoy building a bonfire on the beach using the occasional driftwood that washes up when the river is high.
This is an uninsulated cabin in the woods. More like camping than a hotel. Please look through all the pictures before booking. If you have dust, mold, or pollen allergies and would not camp outside because of them this will not work for you.

The view from the cabin was exceptional! The sunsets were amazing! My kids loved everything about staying there. The beach is close and enjoyable. It felt similar to camping, but with more conveniences. Our only complaints were that it was extra warm (there were air conditioning units to help, they just couldn't keep up) and the master bed was extremely squeaky.
This is a beautiful little cabin, right on the river with a nice little beach. The views were wonderful. Don't let the two bad reviews scare you off, I found it to be very clean inside and the deck was nice. Would be great for a family to stay for a few days. I enjoyed having a bonfire by the river and looking at the stars. The host's communication was kind and quick.Coffee was provided and the pots, pans and dishes were nice.I do want to mention one thing you might want to know. I had to sleep at an angle on the bed because I couldn't stretch my legs out all the way. I'm 6'4 so this happens to me often. It won't be an issue for most people! I will stay here again if I can when I'm working in the area.
Our stay was just perfect for us. The view of the river and the area , the sunset across the Mississippi River was beautiful. I recommend staying here. It’s very quiet.
This was a geode hunting/ fishing/ bday trip for my 15 year old and his best friend. The cabin, the location, the inside, the outside... it was exactly what I had hoped for. If you are an outdoorsy person and enjoy unplugging this is the perfect place for you.
My main fear was critters - 4 and 8 legged, (but again, ready to deal with because that goes with getting away) but to my very pleasant surprise the host had a space heater running when we got there - which means any creepy crawlers had obviously been shooed away by the frequency of the host going to the property. And the cleanliness!!! Again, my expectations were realistic for a cabin in the woods... But this was better than some hotels in my hometown! The sink was actually cleaner than the one in my home!
The location. Oh my gosh it was everything. RIGHT on the Mississippi meant the teen boys could do some serious night fishing. The fire ring on the beach was a great bonus. Being able to sit in a chair and listen to the waves, or walk the shoreline looking for rocks, or reading a book on the patio... It was the ultimate get away weekend.
If you are an outdoorsy person and understand what it means to unplug, this is the place for you. I already want to go back. 10/10 recommend and will hopefully be back soon.
This was the perfect little cabin for our getaway.

Beautiful view, very roomy, but everything was falling apart, there were ants everywhere, the ACs were moldy and the beach was covered in trash. The deck was slimy and slippery.

Was absolutely perfect for what we needed for the night! Although the outside was pretty inaccessible due to tons of huge spiders and webs and it didn’t look like it is kept up with, the inside was clean and roomy and had every need we could have needed! The ac units were molded (like black mold) they did blow cold air that helped us as we slept!Overall I’d recommend this for people who like the camping vibe def! But I could def see potential for a more glamping vibe! Rebecca was kind and fast with responding! Thanks again!
It's a cabin on the Mississippi.Beautiful view.Attentive host! ( Rebecca answered my messages immediately.Peaceful Fire ring on the beach. We caught some decent bassLiterally everything we wanted. Can't wait to go back
Wasn’t able to make it to the cabin due to weather conditions on my end, but I was able to get in contact with the owner very easy! She responded very quickly and was very understanding! The pictures looked wonderful and the property looked beautiful from the pictures!
My kids loved how quaint this cabin was. Much of the beach was underwater, but that was okay. It was very clean and had a nice feel about it. I appreciated having the kitchen as there are not a lot of places to eat in Nauvoo. We knew this and got groceries ahead of time. The deposit is collected from the company up front, and we booked many months in advance, so I was paying interest on the deposit, so I would just be aware of that.

Driving up the road, it looks beautiful. We were excited until we saw the property and we were in shock. It was filthy, covered in webs, garbage under the deck and some of the supports were starting to break. There's an outhouse in the backyard that looks to haven't been used in 50 years so i don't know why it hasn't been removed. There's a pile of 5years worth of leaves that are pressed up against the building. Roof has damage, probably from fallen branches. Go inside and everything was dirty, rusty, missing cabinets doors. All the plates and silverware was dirty, same goes for the stove top. We were supposed to stay 2 nights, we only stayed 1 and we left early the next morning. The pictures are a lie. Add 10 years of wear and tear to everything. I do not recommend because if the supports aren't repaired, someone will get hurt.
We had a wonderful time. We did a lot of exploring in Shannon County. The cabin couldn't have been nicer. The bed was comfy. I loved listening to the frogs at night. It's peaceful and very private. The internet worked ok, but it sometimes took awhile to load. We had no cell signal. We have US Cellular. Andrew and Anisha we're very responsive to our needs. The property is a bit out of the way. I would suggest once you're there to limit your travels.

"Cottage" on the Mississippi
Suggest finding the place during daylight. This place is literally right next to the Mississippi River on an embankment and very dark at night, which is not a bad thing, but one really doesn't want to drive into the river! It was a bit difficult to find. Based on the price, which was great, I wasn't expecting too much, but with a little more care and some serious cleaning, it could be a really neat place. Given that and having experience and a cabin of my own in Colorado, these are my suggestions:
CLEAN SHEETS! (In the Master space, they appeared blood-stained and dirty.)
CLEAN MATTRESS COVERS! (There were none.)
NEW OR CLEAN PILLOWS! (There were no pillow covers under the pillow case and they were pretty dirty and stained. Always a turn off!)
EXTRA BLANKETS! (Fortunately, we had brought a few of our own. It was cold that weekend in October. If we had had another person with us, there would not have been enough to go around. As it was, we took a summer cotton blanket off of the bunk bed and happened to find a quilt in a cabinet.)
SCRUB THE BATHROOM THOUROUGHLY AND WASH THE RUGS. PROVIDE AN EXTRA TOWEL FOR EACH PERSON IF THEY ARE STAYING OVER 2 DAYS. (Went into town to purchase some extra towels.) PROVIDE HOOKS TO HANG THE TOWELS ON.
PROVIDE MORE THAN ONE ROLL OF CHEAP TOLIET PAPER. (We also had to purchase more toliet paper.)
Otherwise, we had fun in the area, but mostly we were at the cottage at night. BE AWARE that there are NO groceries stores in the area. The closest one, I believe, was 15 miles away in Carthage, IL. We ate out a few times in Nauvoo and did what we could with food from Dollar General.
CHECK-IN WAS EASY, once we found the place!
PROVIDE AT LEAST 1 ROLL OF PAPER TOWELS or clean kitchen towels. (We also had to go purchase.)
Wish it had not been too windy to fish during our stay. Cute, modest cabin, accurately described. Not fancy but lovely view of the river and a nice little beach.
When I stayed here the rental was around $50 on a weekday, plus the cleaning fee. This I think is priced correctly for what it is. You are paying for the location right on the Mississippi with a private beach. The cabin is modest, and will meet basic needs but is by no means going to be a luxury rental. If you set your expectations to the description, you will not be disappointed. Had this cabin been priced over $100 a night I might have given a different star rating.
What the cabin is like: Small, but liveable. We were going to have 4 people stay but ended up we only had 2. Cabin was PLENTY big for two people. 4 might have been a little bit crowded but there is PLENTY of outdoor space... so perhaps not.
The cabin has a full (but small) kitchen. Sink, microwave, fridge and stove. I didn't ever find an oven mitt - so I used a towel when I reheated some food in the oven. Had basic silverware and plates, pots and pans. I wish there would have been tin foil on hand, but no big deal! No laundry at this cabin. There is a shower tub combo in the bathroom, there is a set of bunkbeds on one end of the cabin and a full size bed on the other. A couch could also serve as a bed, and there is an empty loft area, that could be slept in if you had an air mattress handy. The window air conditioner will keep the cabin cool unless it's sweltering out. Didn't make too much noise - was pleasantly surprised. Door locks and unlocks with a code, felt very secure here. no issues! There are no curtains on the front windows of the cabin that face the river. This was no big deal since no houses are in the way and no one drove down the road, very remote location after all. There were curtains on the sides of the cabin to block the view of any neighbors.
We did find some random bugs in the cabin, but this was not unexpected. You are in the middle of nowhere and it's bound to happen. I was surprised there were not more actually.
There is a fire pit and I wished I would have had chairs along I would have enjoyed that - perhaps next time. For those less squeamish, there were some deck chairs on the porch and plastic chairs in the yard but, they were covered in spiders and cobwebs, so I didn't want to clear them off.
Took a nice walk in the evening and at sunrise down the road, absolutely great! There was even a small waterfall just up the road that was really nice.
