"Wonderful place to stay in the Nikko area. This is a small hotel of 15 rooms overlooking lake Chuzenji. You either make a bus from Nikko station or a have a car to drive up the mountain. There are lots of walks to do in this area and the Kegon waterfall is very impressive. The rooms are spacious and was in the western style. The staff were incredibly friendly and nothing was a hassle. We had breakfast and dinner included which I would recommend. The breakfast had a variety of both western and eastern dishes. The dinners were in the kaiseki style and were fabulous. With beautiful fresh ingredients. They also inquire as to any food allergies and cater the meal to that. Could not ask for a better place to stay. "

"I was in Japan for 2 weeks and this was possibly my favorite place I stayed at. The owners are so nice and welcoming. They speak great English, so that made my life easier! The nicest lady showed me around everything and took time to explain every appliance and amenity with demonstrations. They also held my bags for me after check-out so I could explore. The private onsen was fantastic - the afternoon light, and river view, is beautiful. My room (western) was very comfortable. Great walking distance to so many historic sites. I didn’t need a bus or taxi staying here and I am not a very active person. There is a 24 hour Lawsons nearby. Just remember: you are in the mountains, in a very humid environment. There may be the occasional bug or unexpected plant life, but everything was clean and well-cared for. Bed was very comfy and fresh. This isn’t a luxury resort; it’s like staying in a very nice family cottage. That, and the hosts, are why it’s special. I would come back to Niko just to stay here, even if I didn’t visit any tourist sites. Definitely try this place! "

"Superior Room: lovely big space, with western style beds and traditional tatami mat lounge area that can be sectioned off by sliding panels. Aircon a little bit iffy, but mostly worked with a bit of fiddling about, supplemented by opening windows a bit. Quiet, even with windows open – just the soothing sound of the river. Lovely bathroom with twin wash basins, and private shower and lovely hot onsen bath on a private balcony. Large key locked safe in room. Comfy beds with two pillows available for each. Elaborate Japanese style dinner and breakfast. Staff were very helpful with some English language skills. Great location close to temples and shrines, and also near a bus stop that goes to Kegon falls and nearby ropeway. Also is only a short distance from the Shinkyo Bridge and the northwest end of town. Coffee machine instructions only in Japanese, and Google Translate of them not entirely helpful – had to look up instructions in English on the interweb and YouTube. Only small criticism: no power outlets by beds to charge your phone."
