About this property

Acadia Mtn View|Updated 1880s Home |Pets |Fire Pit

  • Welcome to Acadia View Cottage, curated by the local experts at Acadia's Edge.

Experience the "Quiet Side" in this historic 1880 MDI basecamp, where Acadia Mountain is literally framed in your window. Perfectly designed for groups of 8, our pet-friendly retreat features the Summit Station mudroom, The Quarry Kitchen, and Fast Wi-Fi. Blending Victorian soul with modern utility: Roku TVs, PS3, and beach towels for nearby Echo Lake. Your authentic Hall Quarry escape curated for adventure.

Acadia View Cottage draws its name from the unmatched, framed view of Acadia Mountain—a peak that has stood as a silent sentinel over the village of Hall Quarry for centuries. Built in 1880, this historic original is one of the few remaining homes from the height of the island’s granite era. While others may claim the name, this is the "one true" Acadia View, where the mountain is literally framed in your window, serving as a constant reminder of the adventures awaiting you just minutes away.

Designed as the ultimate high-performance basecamp, the cottage is perfectly positioned for groups of eight and their four-legged explorers to conquer the Seven Peaks of western Mount Desert Island—Beech, Acadia, St. Sauveur, Valley Peak, Flying Mountain, Bernard, and Mansell. From the summit of Acadia Mountain, you’ll find breathtaking views of Somes Sound, the only true fjord on the Atlantic Coast. For those seeking freshwater recovery after a long trek, Echo Lake—one of the island’s premier swimming and boating destinations—is located literally at the end of the road.

Just down the road lies Somesville, the oldest settlement on MDI and home to the island’s most photographed historic bridge. We understand that a true adventure includes the whole family, which is why our 1880 retreat is proudly pet-friendly. Acadia View Cottage preserves its historic soul while offering the modern utility required to recharge, refuel, and relax after a day of island exploration. Whether you are gathering for a lobster bake or watching the light fade on the peaks, this is your authentic home base on the "Quiet Side."

    LIVING AND ENTERTAINING
The living room at Acadia View Cottage serves as a cozy, central gathering spot that balances its 1880 heritage with modern comfort. Centered around a smart TV equipped with a Roku, this space is ideal for winding down after a day on the trails. With "Guest Mode" enabled, you can easily sign into your own streaming accounts or enjoy a movie from the DVD player.

For cooler Maine evenings, the electric fireplace adds a warm glow and effortless ambiance to the room. The space features comfortable seating and a unique coffee table, creating an inviting atmosphere for a small group to share stories or plan the next day's mission. While the home is a sprawling basecamp for eight, the living room remains a focused sanctuary for relaxation and quiet connection.

    KITCHEN AND DINING
The kitchen at Acadia View Cottage is a high-functioning hub designed to fuel a group of eight. Blending 1880 character with modern efficiency, the space features updated butcher block countertops and is fully equipped for everything from quick trail snacks to multi-course family dinners. To make hosting effortless, we’ve included a dedicated dishwasher, an ice machine for your coolers, and a filtered water pitcher.

For the morning ritual, our comprehensive coffee station is stocked to cater to every preference. Whether you prefer a quick cup from the Keurig or a full pot from the drip maker, we provide coffee (including decaf), tea, hot chocolate, creamers, and a variety of sweeteners to start your day right.

Gather the whole party at the centerpiece of the home’s traditional dining room: a grand antique wooden table with seating for eight. This table is the true heart of the home—perfect for sharing a locally caught lobster dinner, spreading out trail maps, or gathering the entire family for a night of cards and board games.

    THE QUARRY KITCHEN
Extending your dining experience into the fresh Maine air, The Quarry Kitchen is accessed via a convenient secondary door directly from the kitchen, making it effortless to prep and enjoy meals outside. Bordered by the massive, historic stones that give Hall Quarry its name, this outdoor space features a built-in charcoal grill and a heavy-duty, high-end picnic table. For your convenience, we provide a full set of plastic plates, bowls, and cups specifically for outdoor use, allowing you to enjoy a seamless BBQ or a sunset meal under the stars without a second thought.

    BEDROOMS
The sleeping quarters are located entirely on the second level, creating a quiet sanctuary away from the main living areas. Every bedroom is equipped with a Roku Smart TV in "Guest Mode," a window AC unit for the summer months, and dedicated multi-device charging cords to keep your gear mission-ready.

The Acadia Room: This room is the namesake of the cottage. It features a twin-over-full bunk bed where those resting on the lower full mattress are treated to an amazing, framed view of Acadia Mountain. This room serves as the adventure hub of the home, featuring the PlayStation 3 for evening entertainment.

The Beech Room: Designed for versatility, the Beech Room features a twin-over-queen bunk bed. Like all our rooms, it is styled with the "Quiet Side" aesthetic and offers the modern convenience of high-speed charging and a Roku TV for a private retreat.

The Cadillac Room: This peaceful queen bedroom offers a timeless feel with the benefit of a ceiling fan and the home's only dedicated closet space. This room serves as the logistical hub for families traveling with their newest members; the closet is stocked with a Pack and Play and baby gates to ensure safety at the top of the stairs and a comfortable night's sleep for the little ones.

    BATHROOMS & LAUNDRY
We have designed our bathrooms to be more than just functional; they are refreshed spaces that add to the comfort of your group of eight.

The Main Floor Bathroom: This convenient full bath features a modern tile shower. For your convenience, the full-sized washer and dryer are located here, making it easy to refresh hiking gear or beach towels mid-stay.

The Upstairs Bathroom: This stunningly colored bathroom is a standout feature of the second floor. It is designed for group efficiency with a dual vanity and a separate water closet, allowing multiple guests to get ready at once. The left sink is equipped with a built-in Brita faucet water filter—a unique Acadia’s Edge touch that ensures you have purified water for brushing your teeth or a late-night drink without needing to head downstairs to the kitchen. The space also includes a full tub/shower combination.

    WORKSPACE & CONNECTIVITY
We understand that even on the "Quiet Side," duty sometimes calls. Acadia View Cottage is equipped with upgraded high-speed WiFi to ensure you stay as connected as you need to be before unplugging for the day’s adventures.

The Secretary’s Nook: Located perfectly between the living and dining areas, the home features a beautiful antique fold-down secretary desk. This is the designated command center of the cottage—a private, historic workspace ideal for checking emails or taking a video call without being tucked away in a bedroom. With dedicated charging cords and the home's reliable connectivity, you can manage your morning tasks efficiently before heading out to the trails.

    SUMMIT STATION & PARKING
The Summit Station serves as the main entrance and the primary transition point for your group. More than just a mudroom, this enclosed front entry ensures you can step out of the Maine elements while accessing the smart lock, providing a protected space to shed gear before entering the home.

Gear Hub: The station is equipped with heavy-duty hooks and storage for hiking boots and backpacks. We provide trekking poles for your use, ensuring you are prepared for the Seven Peaks from the moment you arrive.

Versatile Parking: The property offers ample parking across two different areas. The upper section is spacious enough to accommodate a boat trailer or a camper if needed.

High-Voltage Power: For guests traveling with modern gear, we have provided a high-voltage outlet—ideal for charging an EV or a camper van during your stay.

    OUTDOOR SPACES & GROUNDS
The grounds of Acadia View Cottage offer multiple distinct zones designed to highlight the beauty and seclusion of the "Quiet Side."

The Quarry Kitchen: Located just outside the secondary kitchen door, this area is built for seamless outdoor dining. Bordered by the massive, historic stones of Hall Quarry, the space features a built-in charcoal grill and a heavy-duty, high-end picnic table. To keep things easy for the chef, we provide a full set of plastic outdoor dinnerware.

The Star-Gazer Fire Pit: Tucked on the opposite side of the home for total privacy, the fire pit area features seating for the whole group. It is the ultimate spot for classic Maine nights—roasting s'mores, cooking red hot dogs, and taking in the incredible dark skies that make this part of the island famous for stargazing.

The Grazing Lawn: The expansive yard provides plenty of room for kids and pets to stretch their legs. Keep your eyes peeled in the quiet of the morning or evening; the lawn is a favorite frequenting spot for the local herd of white-tailed deer, who are often seen grazing across the property.

(Note: To ensure the safety of our frequent wildlife visitors and your furry friends, we ask that pets remain on a leash or a run while enjoying the grounds.)

Located on the Quiet Side of the island, you’re far enough away from the downtown noise to actually hear the crickets at night.
