About this property

Northern Nest MDI Lakefront: Single-Level, Dual King Bedrooms & Private Dock

  • The magic of Northern Nest is its uninterrupted connection to the water and the expansive lakeside sunroom, where massive windows frame the pond like a living painting.

The smart, dual wing layout puts the bedrooms on opposite sides of the house, King master suite and guest bedroom on one side and King guest room with living room futon on the other. Giving families and groups the perfect balance of shared social space and total evening privacy. From the striking blue kitchen to the rustic wood finishes, the vibe is relaxed, functional, and quintessentially Maine!

    LIVING AND ENTERTAINING
Life at the Nest centers around the views with the sunroom and main living area offering a huge, light filled space for the whole group to gather, recharge, and watch the boats go by.

When it is time to unwind, you’ll have high speed Wi-Fi and a Smart TV, plus a dedicated workspace for those mixing business with lake life. There is even an included backup generator to ensure your peaceful retreat stays powered up no matter what.

    KITCHEN AND DINING
The kitchen is a bright and social space that makes group cooking a breeze. It comes exceptionally well provisioned with everything from a lobster pot for a traditional Maine bake to an air fryer for quick snacks.

Whether you are prepping a big family breakfast or just brewing coffee to take out to the dock, you will find everything you need right at your fingertips.
The dining area sits right next to the sliding glass doors, allowing the lake views to serve as your backdrop. It is the perfect spot for a seafood feast or for a fun evening of boardgames after the sun goes down over Long Pond.

    BEDROOMS AND BATHROOMS
Privacy is a priority here, with the bedrooms spread across separate wings of the home. One side of the house features a primary king suite with its own bathroom and the third bedroom is perfect for kids or friends, offering two twin beds with a view that looks right out over the water and the guest bath. While the other side hosts a second king bedroom with a private entrance leading straight to the front porch and the living room futon.

The guest bathroom is a total game changer for lake life, it features a direct access door to the backyard, so you can head straight from the pond to the shower without tracking water or sand through the main living areas.

Full laundry facilities are also available in the home, making it easy to pack light and keep your gear fresh throughout your Acadia adventure.

    OUTDOOR SPACES
The outdoor setup is what makes Northern Nest truly special. The large lakeside deck is equipped with a propane grill and an outdoor dining table, creating a seamless flow for alfresco meals. From the deck, steps lead down to the grass and straight down to your private dock with a swim ladder.

Being just steps from the back door to the water means you can spend your days swimming, fishing, or simply soaking in one of the most beautiful settings on Mount Desert Island.

Not sure where to start on the water? Just three minutes down the road, Ponds End offers a public boat launch along with a kayak and canoe rental shop, the perfect way to explore Long Pond's hidden coves without bringing your own gear.

    ATTENTION OTHER THINGS TO NOTE!

Northern Nest is a well-loved, traditional home that prioritizes an authentic lakefront lifestyle. To keep you comfortable, we provide window AC units in all bedrooms and use dehumidifiers to manage the coastal humidity. Being right on the shoreline, the common areas are cooled by natural lake breezes and fans. The property is functional and full of character, sitting on a quiet residential road where the rhythm of the pond is the main attraction.

    NEIGHBORHOOD HIGHLIGHTS

Somesville is the historic heart of Mount Desert Island and offers a peaceful, sophisticated alternative to the high traffic tourist centers. Known for its iconic white bridges and classic architecture, it is the perfect central anchor for those who want to experience the "Quiet Side" without feeling isolated. Staying here means you are perfectly positioned to enjoy the island’s best freshwater recreation while remaining within easy reach of the rugged coastal trails.

The lifestyle at Northern Nest revolves around Long Pond, one of the largest and most pristine bodies of water in Acadia. From your front door, you are just a three-minute drive to the Ponds End boat launch, where you can rent kayaks or canoes to explore the pond’s hidden coves. If you prefer a sandy beach, the freshwater shores of Echo Lake are just 11 minutes away, offering some of the warmest swimming on the island.

For hikers, this location is a dream basecamp. You are only eight minutes from the Beech Mountain trailhead, where you can hike to the historic fire tower for 360-degree views of the Great Harbor and the surrounding peaks. After a morning on the trails, you can stop by the Somesville One Stop, just six minutes away, to grab local snacks or supplies for a lakeside lunch.

When you are ready for a taste of village life, the authentic fishing community of Southwest Harbor is about 16 minutes down the road. Here you will find local boutiques, the island’s best pharmacies, and a variety of harbor side restaurants where the seafood is as fresh as it gets. You get the absolute peace of a private lakefront community, with the very best of Acadia National Park just a short, scenic drive in every direction.
