Ideally situated in the center of Mount Desert Island, Echo Pines Cottage is the perfect "home away from home" for vacation activities. It's only minutes from popular "quiet side" trails, including stunning Acadia and Beech Mountains. The entrance to Acadia's pristine, swimmable Echo Lake is only 3 miles away. You'll enjoy a view of the northern section of Echo Lake from the cottage's front windows.

The house sits on 1.5 wooded acres, on a private road. The home is surrounded by tall pines and birch trees. Watch for deer that regularly pass through the yard, and listen for the call of the loons from the lake.

Enjoy eating around the wood- topped kitchen island, or sit by the bay windows looking toward the water.

The cottage is private, but close to all the activities the island has to offer. "Downtown" Bar Harbor is about 15 minutes away, and quaint Southwest Harbor is less than 10.

The house has been outfitted for your comfort, including premium mattresses and many kitchen conveniences and amenities. You'll love the whimsical, "Maine" character of the place. And we take pride in having a spotless cottage!

There are two bedrooms, both with queen-size beds, plus a queen-size pull-out couch with memory foam mattress in the living area and a full size futon couch / bed in the back reading room. The reading room can be closed off for privacy. There are two full bathrooms, both with showers and tubs, one upstairs and one down.

The kitchen is fully appointed, ready for family meals and gatherings! You'll find many basic kitchen staples, like standard spices, cooking oil, and storage wraps provided for you. We also stock condiments in the fridge.

In the basement there's a washer and dryer for your use. Laundry detergent is provided. There's also a ping pong table, ready for those family tournaments.

We, the owners, are local, living on the west side of Bar Harbor, so we're intimately familiar with the area and are ready if you have any issues or questions.

We make every effort to go above and beyond for visitors to MDI. We love the island and truly enjoy sharing it with those who come to experience this fabulous national park. Our goal is that you leave loving Acadia National Park and MDI as much as we do.

Another wonderful year at Echo Pines Cottage

Great Place to Stay on MDI!

We were looking for a place that was a little more quiet and peaceful, and this cottage was perfect! It was very clean and spacious and worked great for our family of four. We spent our days exploring Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor (about 15 minutes away). After a busy day we enjoyed being back at the cottage on the quieter side of the island. Would definitely book again in the future!!

Great location on MDI!

Close to all Acadia Park entrances, carriage roads, Eagle Lake, Jordan Pond, Cadillac Mountain, Bar Harbor and more. Jordan pond popovers should not be missed. Delicious! Well stocked kitchen, great appliances, comfy beds and high end linens. Perfect for two couples celebrating a big birthday!

Out stay at Echo Pines

We had a wonderful stay at the Echo Pines Cottage last week. The cottage was very clean, well equipped with necessities and beyond. I personally really appreciated the working garden hose outside which allowed me to rinse our muddy hiking boots and our dog. We will deginitelly be back!

Lovely home- great hosts!

We loved our private space so close to Acadia. The home is well appointed with everything you need, the games and puzzles were such a nice touch and a great way to relax after hiking. Ellen and Curt gave us the best tips before hand (the parking access for the park was key!!) and left us a lovely welcome note. Great recommendations for local fare and things to do. Thank you!

Excellent place on the MDI quiet-side

Very nicely appointed property. Clean and safe. Everything we asked for. Stocked kitchen so we could cook and socialize. New propane grill was right off the backdoor and worked great. Will definitely be back. :-)

Acadia leg of Waters family Vacation

Excellent experience. My wife, 4 daughters and dog (Moxie) found this to be a great house for our trip to MDI. The mini path is not to be missed and was a great start to each day with Moxie and coffee. Week of fantastic weather so can’t speak to rainy day activities. High points include Cadillac Mountain, hiking to Bar Island with tasty lunch on deck at Bar Harbor Inn, Bubbles hike. Multiple trips to Sand Beach and swimming at Echo lake. Our hosts were easy to work with and their care was evident in the details they provided at the house.

Location Location Location !!!

The location of the house is perfect for hiking or heading in to Bar Harbor. The house sits in a very quiet neighborhood, I could hear the loons on the lake calling each other in the evening and lots of birds chatting in the morning hours. I even saw a lot of young dear walking through the woods surrounding the house.. Pretty views of Echo Lake too. House is cosy and well maintained, the bedrooms are perfect for a great nights rest after a big day of hiking. Ellen and Curt are everything you could want in a vacation rental owner……. helpful, accommodating and very thoughtful. Everything you need for a great vacation!

Perfect Location

The cottage is located about as close to the center of MDI as you can get, right on the edge of the park with easy access to everything on "The Quietside" of the island, including plenty of trails, Echo Lake, Long Pond, Southwest Harbor and Somesville and the Sound--all less than 10 minutes away. And the bigger/busier attractions are about 15-30 minutes out: carriage roads, Bar Harbor, Park Loop Road, Ellsworth. The house itself is great. the location is very private, on a nice wooded parcel. We enjoyed lounging on the back deck and morning coffee in the enclosed porch. The kitchen is well-appointed and made for people who love to cook. The only disappointment was that we were there too early for the blueberries in the yard to be ripe. I didn't have much interaction with Ellen, just a text to let her know of our arrival and departure, but she responded quickly both times. I would definitely rent this property again.

Wonderful Week

We had a great time on MDI! Echo Pines Cottage was cozy and welcoming. Nestled in a lovely wooded area, the house was very clean and had all the necessary essentials. The beds were very comfortable. The master bedroom and closet were spacious. Ellen and Curt quickly responded to communication and provided all necessary information for our stay. It’s nice that the location is quiet and removed from the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor but still very conveniently located to explore the different parts of the island. Some of the activities we enjoyed in the area were: walking along the shore path, eating lobster rolls, touring La Rochelle, taking in the views from the summit of Cadillac mountain, the rocks of Bass Harbor lighthouse, Otter Cliff and Thunder Hole, swimming at Echo Lake Beach and exploring Sand Beach and the tide pools at Wonderland Trail. We walked across the sand bar at Bar Island, and enjoyed a sunset cruise around the island. Highly recommend Echo Pines Cottage for your Maine getaway!

Tidy Cottage Centrally Located

Great care has been taken with this cottage to ensure the comfort and safety of their guests. I do not use the word. “Guest” lightly. It will be clear to those that rent this property that the owners view their care of this home as a matter of personal pride. House was extremely clean, well supplied, notes to help me understand light switches and appliance usage. They have new appliances, high capacity washer and dryer, brand new fluffy white towels, ample bedding. The house itself is centrally located with close proximity to our two favorite swimming ponds and of course Acadia. The owner was extremely flexible with me. My daughter was supposed to have a graduation and the school would not commit to date due to covid. My daughter chose Maine. She chose ,as my father did 70 years ago to miss graduation in favor of this most beautiful area on the planet. Covid walk with mask/ War and diploma given by hall master...it was the right choice! We very much appreciated the ability to have our dogs which can be difficult to do on MDI as many houses do not allow. These factors make this property really stand out. I have not even mentioned the sound of the loons on the lake with my morning coffee...every morning the call of loons;) Thank you so much!

An absolute gem of a property! Located in the quiet woods with great view of Lake Echo yet a quick drive to the major Acadia locations. We were able to get to all of our destinations and find parking without issue because of the accessibility. The home has everything a family needs to have a wonderful vacation, including a mini-trail my kids loved. The owners have one of the most insightful packets we’ve ever had that helped us find new things to do with our kids. We plan to stay here when we return to Acadia again someday.

This property by far exceeded our expectations! The home was stocked with everything we needed. It was clean and just a beautiful setting. We enjoyed grilling after a long day at the park. We even saw deers one evening while sitting out back! The host was quick to answer any questions and had a welcome sign and chocolate blueberries upon arrival! I would absolutely recommend this location and home!

Centrally located

Cozy and clean cottage. Well maintained. Nice location in the woods on the less busy side of MDI. Located centrally to all the places you want to go. Hiking trails, Bar Harbor, Cadillac Mountain, you name it and it's typically 15 - 20 minutes or less to get there. Supplied Welcome packet was very detailed and provided all the information you can possibly think to ask. We look forward to staying again sometime in the future.

Perfect Family Vacation

The property is very well-maintained and the owners have thought out so many details, making it very easy. The kitchen is beautiful and has a great island for family gathering. It's very dog friendly and there are easy walks around the house as well. Bedrooms are very comfortable. The host is very responsive and easy to communicate with. We would definitely rent this home again.
