About this property
Modern barn perched on 24 acres w/ stunning views of mountains & ski resort
Relax and recharge at this bucolic 24 acre retreat perched up on a stunning country road. With expansive 180 degree views of Mt Mansfield (Stowe ski resort), your own trails to explore, and great hiking/XC trails nearby, The Lookout is a truly special spot for a romantic or low key getaway in the mountains. Feel away from it all, with tons to explore out your back door, while having modern amenities in a renovated, beautifully designed barn < 15 min to Stowe Village and 10 min to Morrisville.
And... relax. The Lookout is the perfect blend of a beautiful, rural countryside stay with stunning views and all the modern amenities you need at your fingertips.
Close to all the VT outdoor activities you could dream of, including lots of trails right in your backyard! Only 25 minutes to Stowe Mountain Resort, 45 minutes to Smuggler's Notch, and 50 minutes to Jay Peak for all your summer fun or skiing winter activities. Right down the road from a great hike on Elmore Mountain, minutes away from Lake Elmore and Moss Glen Falls for swimming, kayaking, and other water activities, and directly across the street from the beloved 300 mile Catamount cross country ski trail.
Enter into the recently added mudroom with ample storage and room to kick off your boots after a day of exploring. Off the mudroom, you’ll find a private den with a dedicated workspace and beautiful couch with a memory foam full bed for two. Hi-speed wifi so work calls are no worries. Close the beautiful custom barn door made by a local Vermont craftsman for privacy for work calls or sleeping at night. Off the den, you’ll find a powder room and laundry closet with a washer and dryer.
Head upstairs to the large, open living room and kitchen, bathed in sunlight at all hours of the day. Off the living room, you’ll find two sliders to the brand new second floor deck and a Stuv wood stove for chilly nights. From this room, you’ll have absolutely stunning views of the 24 acre property out back (which is yours to explore!), Mt Mansfield aka Stowe Mountain Resort (where you can watch skiiers rip down the mountain or hikers climb up through your binoculars!), and a local farm to the right where you can sometimes hear the cows in the morning. Wake up in the morning with a coffee after grabbing some from local VT roasters The Roastery and watch beautiful sunsets over the mountains on the deck in the evenings. Grab some local beef or meat from the farm right next door (5 min walk) and cook a delicious meal in the fully stocked kitchen, with Caraway pots and pans, plateware from CB2, new appliances, and more. The table and bench nook in the kitchen were also designed by us and custom made by a local VT carpenter.
Relax in a bath or take a rain shower under the clouds in the new spa-like bathroom. Down the hall, you’ll find two equal sized bedrooms, each equipped with a luxuriously comfortable queen Casper bed and Brooklinen linens. In one bedroom, you’ll find a secretary desk for an additional workspace.
At The Lookout, nature abounds. Star gaze at night with some of the most crystal clear, beautiful night skies you’ll ever experience. Wander the property along two brooks for a late day or early morning walk or snowshoe. Enjoy a glass of wine in the Adirondacks or have a picnic by the pond. In warmer months, roast some marshmallows at the fire pit, swing in the hammock, or grill a local meal on the upstairs deck. Take a walk to purchase both local meats and cheeses or a drive down the road to a local distillery or golf course. Tons of activities for all seasons in the area – cross country skiing, skiing, snowmobiling, hiking, as well as waterfalls and swimming holes. 10 minutes from nearby Lake Elmore for kayaking, boating, and more.
Notes: -Home is private and the land is yours to use. Note there is a 1810 farmhouse also located on the property that is sometimes occupied by up to 4 other guests. We do not allow for parties and the spaces are separate. You can rent both together to sleep up to 10! -Keypad entry. We'll be here to help with recommendations via phone/text and have a local team available to help if needed during your stay. -The property is on a rural dirt road. During winter and early spring, they can get very muddy and potholes can be common. While all wheel/4WD is always great for VT, specifically during these times, we *highly* recommend 4WD vehicles. -The pond is beautiful and peaceful, but is not swimmable at this time. There are lots of local watering holes nearby, as well as Lake Elmore. -In rare cases of extreme weather, brief power outages can occur in Vermont. We provide instructions and an emergency kit, and are always available to support you if anything comes up during your stay. As these events are outside of our control, we’re not able to offer refunds for weather-related outages.

What can we say! This place was everything you want it to be. Equipped with everything you'd want in a city place, but in the middle of nowhere, and with all you'd expect from a remote cabin. Easy to find and settle into, not far from civilisation but enough to feel like you've stepped away. The interior has excellent styling and all the mod-cons you'd want, and the exterior and grounds are simply beautiful. Will definitely recommend to family and friends, and would be a place of choice on a return to this amazing part of the world. Thank you Liz!
The location is super cute and well appointed. it has a great deck and outdoor firepit for relaxing with a glass of wine. We used the pull out foam bed which works well because it is right next to a half bathroom. The beds were very comfortable. There is no AC but it cools down at night so it was pleasant. No spices or coffee included so make sure to bring what you need. It is about 10- 15 minutes from Stowe and lots of cute restaurants and shops. I would recommend this for people who are fine driving a short ways and enjoy the peace and quiet.
