Cool off in the water, stroll along the coastal esplanade and scuba dive among military shipwrecks.

The north-facing Mooloolaba Beach, with its pristine white sand, calm lapping water and surrounding grassy knolls, is a great spot for a day of rest by the seaside. Lounge about on the grassy areas, sunbathe on the beach, snorkel, swim or body board over the surf and scuba dive on the sunken HMAS Brisbane.

This stretch of curved shoreline is one of the most renowned in Queensland. The surrounding trees, grassy lawn, parks, picnic areas and playgrounds give this beach a tranquil, family-friendly atmosphere. Enjoy a relaxing stroll along the waterfront esplanade, take a seat on the viewing platform, look out to sea and breathe in the fresh ocean air. The loo with its ocean views is said to be one of the best features of the esplanade.

Head out to the deep seas on a fishing tour or join a whale-watching cruise to spot the creatures of the deep. For something more adventurous, sign up for a scuba dive tour with sharks.

Hop on a bike and ride along the wooden paths or meander along the beach to the northern end of the shoreline to explore numerous rock pools. Spot sea urchins, clams, soft coral, colourful anemone and sea daisies.

Spread a rug out on the grassy hillside and stay by the water until the sun sets over the ocean. After a day of walking, take a seat at a picnic table, barbecue the catch of the day and look out to sea as the kids play in the nearby playground.

For a snack or meal, head to the Mooloolaba Surf Club or across the road to select from a number of outdoor cafés for alfresco dining.

Mooloolaba Beach is on the Sunshine Coast, about 100 kilometres (60 miles) from Brisbane, approximately a 90-minute drive north.
