I don't usually write reviews because I don't like to waste my time online too much but this will be my first review in Expedia. I fell in love with Mombasa, Kenya and this was my second time visit within two months time frame. We got there around 2am due to the late flight schedule. When we got to the front desk, it literally took 10 minutes for someone to come out and help us check in. The guy looked like he just woke up and he was very disoriented. He walked with us to guide where our room was and the moment we stepped into our compound, there were so many bugs everywhere. Spiders on the wall, lots of ants on the floor, mosquito in the air, list goes on. We both were super tired so we just wanted to take shower and crash. Next thing you know, toilet water and shower water didn't work. I walked to the front desk area to get this fixed and they were just wondering around for two hours to figure this out why there wasn't water and they had us move into different room, even smaller room with worse outside view. By the time we both took shower and lied down on the bed, it was almost 5am. They didn't apologize about the situation and I felt like I was the one who interrupted their routine. I let that go and woke up at 8am to get some breakfast. Food was just horrible, I had a couple of bites and I had to come back to the room and rest. When we checked out, their attitude was like nothing ever happened. I would not recommend this place to anyone but I still love Mombasa.
This place is stunningly beautiful. And I had a suite that would have cost 6x in Hawaii or similiar. Something is off however. There were barely any guests, maybe 2-3 and the place is very large. I was told by a couple of locals I encountered on the beach that up until 2 years ago it was thriving with tourists. The front desk says they market to conferences now. It is isolated. The staff is wonderful, special thanks to Hamisi and Mwiniyi. The food is very mediocre not because of the chefs but there appeared to be a lack of supplies. The kitchen/chef really struggled to fulfill the menu items (I ordered Chicken Breast w/rosemary and got a leg, thigh with some kind of tomato sauce and there was a struggle to create a Vegetarian Burger, took 45 minutes). The only tropical drinks they offered was a Pina Colada and Camparie. There are cottages and if one is driving (Kenya is a crazy place to drive) than one can bring their own food. The front desk could not make change for a small bill. The private beach was not kept clean so had to deal with debris. There is no gift shop and shopping is very far away. If you are looking to be alone in a serioulsy beautiful resort this is it.
We spent 2 days at this wonderful place on our backpacking trip in East Africa.
It was a welcome change to the low budget hotels.
The staff was so courteous and we felt very comfortable.
Wonderful!!!
