"A small hotel in a very convenient location. An old building but thorougly renovated. Strongest point is the quality of the staff. Anja is the queen of receptionists. When my wife had a tooth ache, she was able to suggest a dentist and then, the tooth taken care of, when my wife wanted a hair dresser she directed her to one who did an excellent job. However, in all fairness, when we needed some information about local buses and Anja was not on the desk, one of her colleagues gave us very good service.
There are larger and more recently constructed hotels in the area, but I don't think we would have had the personal attention we had at the Strathcona.
There is a large and very nice pub and restaurant on the ground floor. We had not planned so, but except for breakfast we ate and drank there. Good food and nice staff.
Hotel close to the major downtown tourist attractions.
We found the room just a bit small, but that may have been because we had just left a spacious room in a hotel in Vancouver. Couldn't figure out the heating unit, finally in frustration we just left it off. Possibly due to good insulation we felt perfectly comfortable. Room looked out onto an outside bar a couple of stories lower. It was closed for the season, but in warmer weather noise from the bar might be inconvenient. Never did figure out the coffee machine in the lobby and didn't like sign telling me to give the hotel a five star rating. This side of heaven nothing is perfect."
"A very nice hotel. Beautiful rooms, spacious and classy touches. Downtown is close to many things; good and bad. ;)
Stay off Pandora, but the hotel is beautiful and a great oasis during our exploring of Victoria."
