Our stop in Melrose was unplanned and at the last minute. Just looking at the hotel from the outside we knew it was going to be good. The staff were very friendly, the food delicious and the rooms very clean and comfortable. I would definitely stay again.
Fantastic experience - friendly and efficient staff; clean and comfy room; and a great breakfast with plenty of options. The hotel itself is perfectly placed at the centre of Melrose, and there a lots of local walks and a reasonably regular bus service stopping nearby so you’re well connected to the wider area.
One slight point to note is that the plumbing reflects the age of the building, so while the taps and shower are modern and well kept, water flow can be slightly erratic at times. Not a noticeable issue however, had no major impact on our enjoyment of this great locale!
The Borders; so much to do/ experience in Scotland’s gentle, Lowland South.
Choose wisely where you hang your hat; last year we came unstuck; this, we made sure!
The Townhouse Hotel in Melrose embraces the triangular square in this jewel of the Borders on the Tweed. We stepped inside to a quiet, understated friendly welcome, found our broad, airy room and shook off the dust with a cool glass served to our table on their secluded rooftop terrace.
Dining is an elegant art in this quintessentially but subtlety Scottish hostelry. Peruse the menu; I rest my case!
Icing on an already tasty cake was when their Mam’selle de la Cocktail rocked out THE BEST Espresso Martinis either side of the Border! Word is they are planning a special Cocktail of the Week from now on.
Go. Stay there. Then come, tell me I’m wrong. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A lovely room, well decorated and with a comfortable bed. There restaurant provided a very good menu choice for evening meal and the food was very good.
Lovely hotel, very well presented and lovely welcome at check in.
Room comfortable except for the pillows which were very hard but we didn’t ask staff to rectify this as we felt a bit embarrassed in case they thought we were being fussy.
Lovely clean bedding and towels.
Good choice of breakfast.
Hotel is on the main street so was a bit noisy at night from the pubs kicking out but also meant that it was very accessible and easy to park directly outside.
Nice to have a walk at night, beautiful Abbey ruins literally around the corner.
Our stay at the Townhouse Melrose was lovely
Not one single complaint
Room 5 was great
We ate in the hotel for the 3 nights
Great menu choice
James and his staff were great
Really recommend it
We had a great stay, it was myself, my two children and my mum that stayed in a family room. The room was great, lots of space, incredibly comfy beds and water, tea, coffee etc for all four of us.
Breakfast was also really good and staff very friendly and helpful, we would definitely stay again.
Delightful hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. breakfast was substantial and tasty. Hotel is in the centre of the small town and so very near the Melrose Abbey, gardens and the river. Parking was busy outside the hotel when we arrived but we could park at their sister hotel opposite which was fine
I asked for a quiet room and we were given a lovely peaceful room at the back which was perfect.
Very comfortable bed and thick blackout curtains meant we got a great night's sleep.
We had a very nice dinner and breakfast too.
The staff were welcoming and efficient. We would definitely recommend The Townhouse for both accommodation and food.
Excellent welcome and booking in. Good sevice in the dining room and bar. All the staff were friendly. The menu was the same every day but the choice was quite good
