Relax at this bayside village, known for its long stretch of golden sands, excellent boating and swimming conditions and beautiful views out to Port Phillip Bay.

Explore the pretty coastline and forested foreshore of Safety Beach, a seaside village that stretches alongside an extended strip of sandy beaches on the Mornington Peninsula. Stroll along 3.5 kilometres (2.2 miles) of golden sands or venture out in a boat to take in gorgeous views of Dromana Bay and wider Port Phillip Bay. The village is picturesquely nestled between Mount Martha to the north and Arthur’s Seat to the south.

Named for its calm waters, Safety Beach is a great place to bring children for a day by the seaside. Bring a towel and relax on sand or enjoy the shade under the tree-lined foreshore. A children’s playground and barbecue area can also be found at the waterfront. Explore the small jetty at the centre of the beach, splash in the shallows or wander north to the Safety Beach Sailing Club. Here, you can watch sailors launching out into the bay or take up sailing lessons with an informative instructor. At the southern end of the beach, you can see brightly cultured bathing boxes, which make for a charming photo opportunity.

Check out the lavish Safety Beach Country Club to the east of the village, which features a golf course, mini golf, tennis courts and a restaurant.

The foreshore strip of Marine Drive is mostly residential, but you can find a busy shopping precinct in the neighbouring village of Dromana, approximately 3 kilometres (1.9 miles) southwest along the coast.

Reach Safety Beach via car within an hour and 20 minutes’ along the Mornington Peninsula Freeway or the coastal Nepean Highway. You can also catch a train to Frankston from Flinders Street Station and connect with the local bus network. Explore the area around Safety Beach with a trip out to the Mornington Peninsula’s furthermost point at Portsea and Point Nepean. You can also visit the region’s wineries and berry farms in nearby Red Hill.
