The Huntsman - cottage in the woods

The house is a cedar cottage nestled among the tree ferns. The surrounding flora is home to many outdoor creatures. We live in harmony with them and respect their space for they are the true occupants of the property.

The house is surrounded by tree ferns and gums. There are no boundary fences and the back leads to the forest. Many forest creatures come out at night. Often heard and seldom seen but intriguing all the same. By day the birds are in abundance and will put on a show for you on the bird feeder. The kookaburras are at your service as a natural alarm every morning at day break.

Guest are welcome to live in the house for their time away from home. We will communicate via text and phone and may not meet as access to the house is remotely managed.

Keys to the property are stored in a Key Lock Safe on the property. The combination will be provided before check in.

Warburton is an attractive town on the Yarra River, nestled in a valley between heavily forested mountains, east of Lilydale and on the road to Mount Donna Buang. The town has a multitude of cafes and other eateries, many housed in buildings which date back to Warburton's early beginnings as a mountain escape for Melburnians in the early 1900s. The Visitor Information Centre is a prominent landmark in the main street, featuring a large replica of a water wheel used by the logging industry in the past.

Best to have your own transport however there is a bus that comes into town. The house is about a 15 minute walk from the bus stop. Should this be your mode of transport, please advise and I will give directions.

We stayed three nights. This is a very unique cottage with lots of character. Very comfortable and well appointed. Everything you need for your stay. A very quiet position among the tall ferns and gums where you will experience beautifully natural surroundings. We hope to return one day. surroundings surroundings

A gem of a location

Situated in the woods amongst giant tree ferns our cottage was comfy and warm. Loads of walks for the active tourist and only a stone’s throw from the wineries of the Yarra Valley. The local cuisine was delicious and we even discovered an artisan baker nearby that sold great bread and pastries. What more could you want?

Oasis in the Woods

Huntsman is an artistically appointed, eclectic slice of heaven. A private retreat among the ferns and trees, close to all that Warburton has to offer. The outdoor shower was the highlight of the stay - what an experience. Waking up to bird song and the laugh of the kookaburras was a treat. We felt so at home and did not want to leave.

Wonderful quiet few days in Warburton

We arrived to the local chorus of birds and sat on the balcony and watched and listened... Very relaxing few days in a lovely home in a peaceful environment. Highly recommend and hopefully will return before too long. Thank you.

A Beautiful Peaceful Break

This is a lovely cottage in the woods. We found it very quiet with only the bird songs to listen to. The furnishings are quirky with an "Alice in Wonderland" feel that was delightful. The lights were rather dim which made reading difficult. But we loved it and highly recommend it.

Despite name no spiders, 5 stars.

We went to Warburton to get away and go for hikes in the hills and unwind, the cottage was a great base camp and it was amazing to come back to somewhere warm with a fire. The outdoor shower under a canopy of tree ferns was possibly our favourite feature as we are now trying to figure out the logistics of outdoor bathing in our house we are planning to renovate. After a day of hiking it was unparalleled.

Beautiful forest cabin

We loved being in the forest, it was so peaceful. There was plenty of good firewood and we had a very cosy fire. The birds were amazing, my daughter loved hand feeding them. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was nice and warm. The kitchen was well stocked and easy to use. There was no block out blind/curtain in the bedroom. Some of the decor was a bit creepy, lots of animal skulls, my daughter felt a bit scared. Overall, a great location for a quiet forest holiday and very handy to Warburton.

Wonderous Site

The Hunstmans Cabin was more than just a pretty site but a cosy place to call home even for just a little while. I'm very grateful for the owners whom present a well maintained space that is fully equipped ready for anyone to step in and enjoy. The nature and birds around were a pleasure to witness and be welcomed by. From the first evening I arrived, I was given a friendly welcome from the 'Hunstmans' himself! :D Besides my fondness for nature and the tranquility of the stillness and peace around, I was quite excited by the home decorations, both inside and out. Quite a magical place you have, it a sweet town. Thank you for sharing it for all to enjoy :)
