Charming restored barn with 2 bedrooms, 2 baths in beautiful WV mountains
Escape to the mountains and enjoy a stay in this authentic converted early 20th-century hay barn. You'll be surrounded by the Appalachian mountains and beautiful West Virginia countryside. Our converted barn includes all the comforts of home while still showcasing original rough-sawn timbers and nostalgic glimpses of the past. In addition to seeing plenty of wildlife, you'll also encounter farm animals such as chickens, ducks, and a friendly goat.
As a child, my wife passed this little hay barn regularly on her way to her home. Now, our family has moved back to her childhood community and want to invite you to experience the charm of West Virginia life.
Our newly restored barn has 1 enclosed bedroom with a queen bed on the main floor, a large loft with 2 full-size beds, a sofa bed couch on the lower floor, and a large reading nook built on top of the barn's original feeding trough. This cozy nook on the lower floor doubles as sleeping space. There are 2 full baths with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash provided. The main floor bathroom offers a walk-in shower and the lower floor bathroom invites you into a relaxing soak in its antique claw-foot tub.
The Hay Loft is just as perfect for a romantic getaway as it is for a family vacation. The kitchen is well stocked with cookware, dinnerware, and utensils. Coffee, tea, and hot chocolate are provided. The end of the kitchen counter can be raised for additional counter space or use our fold-away stools to have extra table space.
The Hay Loft's high-speed fiber wifi is great for remote work, and allows you to stay connected during your visit. The 3 TV's are connected to Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
You will have everything you need to have a peaceful retreat in the Hay Loft, but if you want to leave, there are plenty of sightseeing opportunities nearby. Even though we're miles away from city life, there are several lovely places to eat within 10 miles. We're located a few miles from Lost River State Park, with its miles of trails and majestic scenic overlooks, as well as a seasonal pool, horse riding, disc golf, tennis, and plenty of play and picnic areas. We are also within a 20-minute drive from Trout Pond, a beautiful mountain lake with a swim-friendly beach.
Guests will have full access to the Hay Loft and its back yard. There is a shared play set for children, as well as a pergola with a double swing that's perfect for relaxing. You can have a backyard fire in the fire pit. Wood and roasting sticks are provided.
There are farm animals including cats, a dog, a goat, chickens, and ducks on the property that you're welcome to pet or interact with during your stay.
We're just off a lightly traveled paved back road that is a good walking or biking space.
Our house is beside the Hay Loft, so you will likely see us next door and are welcome to interact if you would like. However, with the keyless entry and privacy fence, you can have as much solitude as you prefer. If you have any needs during your stay, we may be nearby to ask in person, and we'll always be available by cell phone or email.
PLEASE NOTE: The main floor of the Hay Loft is ONLY accessible by stairs.
We're located in the mountains, so cell service is unlikely at the Hay Loft. There are spots with AT&T service within walking distance, but Verizon or T-Mobile have a 5-minute drive to service. We have a guest wireless network that you can connect and call from.
We use a full-house filtration system for the Hay Loft, so you're welcome to drink the tap water.
We're a restored barn located in the country, and while we have made every effort to control insect life, you may see the occasional insect inside the barn.

The Hayloft was just like being at home. Very clean and all the necessities plus more were provided. Probably the most equipped place we have stayed. Raun and Dorcas are wonderful hosts, very friendly and available. If you want or like a quiet place to stay / visit, then this is it.
The Hayloft is adorable. Raun & Dorcas were great hosts. Our kids loved it and said it was the best one they've ever stayed in. They are already making plans to stay again.
me and my husband went here after we got married. we absolutely love the mountains and this place was perfect. the hosts treated it like we were in their own home. super friendly and left muffins and champagne for us on the counter when we arrived. the animals on the property were also extremely friendly. the hosts saw us outside and happily spoke with us and brought us over a kitten to pet! their goat was super cute and we loved going outside to pet all the animals. the house was spotless and had absolutely everything we needed, and also said if there was something we needed they’d be more than happy to help us get it! they had extra snacks and tea coffee! as well as some sparkling water and eggs in the fridge. definitely one of the most stocked and clean houses we’ve stayed at. which is amazing if you accidentally forget something. we were unbelievably happy with our stay. super peaceful. the bathrooms has extra toilet paper, towels, washcloths ect. and had shampoo, conditioner and body wash! even had makeup wipes in each bathroom. there was bath products like bath salts and bath bombs which was super cool. overall an AMAZING stay the place was beautiful. me and my husband hope to be back eventually.
This has to be the most charming, most well-equipped, most picturesque little getaway that I have ever stayed in. And I have stayed in a lot over the years. To begin, imagine staying in the fresh country air, surrounded by incredible mountain vistas only a few hours from the DC area. Then mix in two hosts that have really gone the extra mile to make your stay feel like a resort. They have thought of everything. Delicious coffee, tea and pastries awaited us in our well-stocked kitchen. The bathroom shower and downstairs bath were loaded with spa-like treatments. Outside was the most delightful jacuzzi, nestled in a garden space, with an elegant curtain to draw and offer a little privacy. The sound of nature and farm animals give a soft soundtrack to a relaxing soak. I noticed such delightful little touches throughout the house: hand painted mountains, raw wood details, fresh flowers, fall décor, children's toys and books, little spaces of joy and pure relaxation. I mean, truly, this is a hidden gem. Once you arrive, plan on unwinding in the most blissful of ways. And if you forgotten anything, they either already have it, or your wonderfully responsive hosts will be sure to help you get it.
My favorite place to unwind was the lower level daybed area. It felt like I was drifting away on a ship. The only note you might want to know is that storage is limited due to the size of the space. So be prepared to be creative with items that you brought. Thank you Raun and Dorcas!!
The place was extremely clean and felt comfortable and homey. We loved all the sweet and thoughtful personal touches. You can tell the hosts really care about the place. We will definitely be coming back!
We loved our stay at the hayloft! The property is gorgeous, as is the house. The hosts were super responsive and very generous! They set us up with firewood and a starter log, and the place had anything you might want or need. They’ve truly thought of everything! The beds were soft and cozy, the place was immaculate and just the right size for a couple or a small family. The location was great for lost river state park. The nearby pizza place was delicious and wardensville had some cool shops to explore. Overall, loved our stay and probably will return.
