We were knocked out by the comtempory feel and stylish interior to what is simply a cave. It was fresh and perfect. The staff were so friendly and knowledgeable. Even the lovely lady at breakfast remembered what we liked to drink with our breakfast.

Truly fantastic boutique hotel! Such an amazing find! Highly recommended. Parking is free and easy to find. The hotel picks you up and takes you into the city. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. On the day of our departure we needed to leave very early and they had a full breakfast ready for us and gave us a ride back to our car with no problem at all. The location at the edge of the cliff is absolutely stunning and the views are unparalleled. The rooms themselves are unique and very well appointed. The bathroom in our room needs to be repainted and the loft where the kids slept got very hot. But other than that we can't find a single fault with this lovely spot in a beautiful city!

Excellent room/apartment built into rock Great view outside towards the caves opposite Room well equipped no windows apart from the doors at entrance so not a lot of natural light but with so much to do you don’t spend too much time in room 😀

Fabulous hotel in the Sassi area of Matera. Room was a delight with fantastic views of the gorge. Staff were very friendly and could not be more helpful. Free shuttle to car parks was invaluable!

What wonderful surprise! Great communication with front desk with options to a free or paid parking plus free shuttle RT to hotel and back. If I could give more than five stars to this hotel, I would. The staff were welcoming and helpful, and the location perfect -- beautiful views just outside our door and transportation a short essy walk away. Our room was spacious and clean, and the beds were comfortable. We enjoyed the simplicity of the furnishings, which complemented the hotel's surroundings. The breakfast bar was delicious! Thanks to everyone at Hotel Basiliani for a beautiful vacation.

The property is perfectly situated at the side of a mountain canyon offering spectacular views, far from the noisy streets, although you might get the small groups of tourists with their guide. I think it is one of the best locations in town. You are just minutes away from many great restaurants and shops, but it is also tranquil most of the day. No one would know the beautiful caves are actually part of a hotel. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and friendly, speaking a few languages. Very responsive, most of our extra requests were completed within a reasonable time. The hotel offers free shuttle from many parking areas in Matera to the hotel, otherwise inaccessible by your own car as the ZTL is in effect most of the day.

Great hotel in the heart of sassi

Fantastic hotel located in what used to be cave houses. Great location in Sassi and amazing view of the gorge. Very much appreciated the directions to free parking at the university and the complimentary hotel shuttle which arrived quickly and made parking easy and stress free. Friendly and helpful staff who provided a map of where to go and all major sights which are within walking distance. Some lovely restaurants also close by. Great mini bar and fridge with good selection of drinks and snacks and inexpensive. Only slight negative would be that the bathroom could do with a bit of TLC but despite this is very clean. Would stay again and fully recommend.

This hotel was so cool! The view is stunning! We definitely appreciated the free parking outside of the downtown (perfect directions provided by the hotel) and the shuttle to/from the hotel. The room was spacious and had a loft. We were 4 people and had lots of space. The lighting used was perfect for the cave setting and the light up furniture was a hit with my kids. We also appreciated having AC as it was very hot in June. The surrounding area was easily walkable (but be warned, there are a lot of stairs in matera!) and we got to the various sites easily. Breakfast was included and was great. Would definitely recommend this hotel!

I would give the service at this place 10 stars out of 5 if I could! We arrived at some random bus stop in the bottom of town because their main station is closed for remodeling, so I didn't really know where we were when I called the shuttle. Nino just asked me the name of the street & came to get us. By the next morning, we had fallen in love with the town and changed our itinerary for the rest of the trip to spend more time in Matera, but they didn't have space for us to stay longer. They called around and found us a place at another amazing hotel. When it was time to check out, they had it all arranged to simply simply transfer our bags and pick up new keys at the other hotel. As for the hotel itself, the rooms were huge, clean and very unique. Very cool hotel in an amazing town.

This hotel in my opinion is a hidden gem. We had the best 3 nights stay in this hotel.we loved the location and absolute dreamy views.There were plenty of restaurants etc within a short walking distance, but our location was not affected by the noise it was so quiet and relatively secluded. The free shuttle service which was super organised. our spotlessly clean cave bedroom was very big, freshly decorated, modern and equipped with hairdryer, kettle with coffee etc and tv and Wi Fi. Now the biggest selling point which I believe the hotel should shout about more was our bathroom. It was amazing, it had a Lage recessed cave bath, with a top of the range spa shower. The bath / spa shower was like a very large private cave hot tub which lit up in different glowing colours when you selected the controls. It felt very luxurious indeed. We enjoyed a nice glass of local wine while relaxing in it. In our own little spa. Breakfast was plentiful, tasty and of very good quality and we sat there on the balcony eating and enjoying the stunning views. The staff were very friendly and helpful.I would strongly recommend this hotel.we also booked an ape (tuk tuk) ride with a guide to see the local area sights without getting sore feet and it was amazing and highly recommended. Thank you so much for making our visit so magical team you are a credit to matera

Wonderful hotel in a great location in Matera. Each room was different and wonderful (we had four rooms). The staff was great and the transfers to/from the parking garage were perfect. We would absolutely stay here again!
