Original fjord house in its own beautiful fjord arm of the Sognefjord
10/10 Excellent
"Staying in this incredible home in Finnabotn was the highlight of our Norway vacation. This "secret" branch of the Sognefjord offers a truly authentic, off-the-grid experience. There is no road access so we rented a boat—the only way to get here—through Vik Adventures and the journey itself was part of the adventure, a scenic 25 to 45-minute ride on the fjord from Vikøyri, depending on conditions. The home itself is a quiet, rustic retreat with some modern updates, preserved to maintain its historical features as part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The scenery is absolutely stunning, with enormous waterfalls serving as a backdrop. We spent our time exploring the area, hiking to the top of the mountain where the waterfalls begin, and enjoying the wild berries. We boated to Balestrand for dinner one night. Every evening, we'd sit on the dock listening to the sounds of the falls. This is a perfect escape for anyone looking for an authentic, off-the-beaten-path experience. NOTE: you need to pack your groceries, as there are no stores nearby!"
"Nestled in the hills surrounded by lush greenery, the Alver Hotel was our base for kayaking in the spectacular fjords. We stayed in an updated cabin that was well equipped with the basic necessities, including an in unit washer and dryer. Our stay includes a delicious breakfast buffet each morning. If possible I would give a sixth star for the friendly staff who went the extra mile to make our stay pleasant and memorable."
"The bed was huge, a little too big for the size of the room but the room was clean. The room was cute, kind of the old village style atmosphere. The view of the lake was beautiful and the complimentary breakfasts were "delightful"! Ginger shots, caviar, and fresh fruit smoothies daily. It's about 40 miles from the city which is a challenge for taxi service but the staff was extremely friendly. I enjoyed my stay."
Big Cabin sleeps 2-9 people, open fire place, view of the Sognefjord
10/10 Excellent
"This is a lovely spot. The cabin is set into the side of a ridge with forest at the back. The front wall of windows and deck look out about a kilometer, over fields and the village, to the Sognefjord. During our stay with our teenaged granddaughter in early June, the wildflowers were everywhere, and the forest was a misty J.R.R. Tolkien landscape of thick moss, crags, rocks, crevices and rivulets. Great hiking out the door in every direction, and, even on a drizzly day, the anticipation of a cozy return. The heated floors are delightful. Much thought went into the cabin's layout, with touches including carvings, a gnarly stump supporting the kitchen counter, and stairs to the loft hewn out of a single log.Ortnevik is off the beaten path, at the end of a narrow road from Bjordal to the west. That is an appealing reason to visit this part of Hoyanger. But, the visitor should realize that ferries are more limited on the weekend, the small local store is often closed, and no nearby cafes. So, a good idea to pick up supplies on the way and double check the ferry schedule. Our time here was the highlight of our trip to Norway."
Wooden cabin with grass roof, sleeps 2-5 people., Self catering. Open fire place
10/10 Excellent
"Prachtige omgeving, maar je moet wel van sportieve wandelingen houden. Je kunt een heel mooie boottrip maken over de Fjord naar Vik. Aardige verhuurders! Wel tanken voor dat je er naar toe rijdt! In het dorpje is om de dag de buurtsuper open."
