I expected a 5-star experience at InterContinental Marseille, but was sorely disappointed. Upon arrival, no one assisted with luggage, and the check-in felt more like a 3 star hotel.
We checked into our room and immediately noticed several issues: tools left behind, a crooked TV, and an unclean bathroom. We tried to contact reception, but no one answered. Meanwhile, we waited 45 minutes for our luggage to arrive. It was only when the bellman came with our luggage and we informed him of the room's condition that he managed to get reception to contact us to be moved to another room. Later we contacted room service for some ice, only to be told it would take 30-40min. In the end I just went down myself to get ice from the bar. Seriously 40min for ICE?
I booked this hotel mainly for the spa, which turned out to be mediocre, not matching the allure of its promotional videos.
The bellman's friendliness and local knowledge were a small bright spot in an otherwise disappointing experience. InterContinental Marseille needs to seriously reconsider its 5-star rating if it continues to offer service that is more in line with a 3 star establishment. I would not recommend this hotel for those seeking a luxury experience.
