Three bedroom chalet on Sixteen Mile Lake

The Buck Rack Chalet is nestled in the Hiawatha National Forest with 100 ft. of waterfront property on Sixteen Mile Lake. This three bedroom chalet is the perfect destination for a family or group of friends to gather for relaxation and fun.
In the summer months, enjoy fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and swimming in the lake. Take a short 15 -30 minute trip to the Pictured Rocks, a glass bottom shipwreck tour on Lake Superior, the beaches of Lake Superior, or bike around Grand Island.
During the winter, there is no better place to stay to enjoy the hundreds of miles of groomed snowmobile trails the area has to offer. Our cabin sits right in the center of the lake effect snowbelt in the Upper Pennisula.
Munising is 12 miles from the chalet where you will find a large grocery store, restaurants, gas stations, gift shops, churches, and bars. There is also a really nice Visitor's Center there with lots of information about the area. Make your reservation today!

The property was beautiful. The house was very clean. Our grandchildren had an awesome time. The only think they wanted was to fish. A fishing pole or two would have been extra great! But we loved our stay! Thank you

My family and I stayed to celebrate a Birthday and travel around the UP for a week. The house was perfect, well set up and dog/kid friendly. We really enjoyed having coffee on the dock in the morning and stargazing at night (when it wasnt cloudy). It was so nice to hear nature and feel the calm of the woods. Buckhorn Resort Tavern was great for a family meal out and Carberry's Wood Fired Pizza was worth it!! (They are cash only) The shipwreck tour was also surprisingly great!!Overall we had a great time and the house was a perfect base camp for the week. We miss it already!!

Amazing family getaway

Our family had a great time staying here for the week. We enjoyed the couple of super hot days on the lake, in and on the water. And, spent some time on the cooler days checking out the area - shipwrecks in Lake Superior, exploring the painted rocks and waterfalls and shopping the many shops in Munising. The communication with the owners was great, very responsive when we had questions. I wouldstay here again if we come back to the UP. And if you're looking for more space for additional family or friends to stay, have them check out Snowshoe just next door. We had additional family that stayed there so we all could vacation together.

Great secluded cabin!

Cabin was clean and as advertised. Lake setting is very quiet and beautiful. Good location about 15 mins outside Munising, great staging spot for exploring Pictured Rocks.

Peaceful Getaway

This property was perfect for our family! The house is beautiful with all the furnishings and amenities we needed. The view was amazing and conveniently located near Munising for fun day adventures, but provided the perfect relaxing haven to come back to after a day of adventuring. Highly recommend!!

Winter Getaway

Had a great stay with friends from Iowa and Michigan. Eben Ice Caves is a must do in the winter months. Thank you for allowing the early check-in. Hope to come back for more exploring next winter.👍🏼

Wonderful Cabin!

Our family of 6 absolutely loved our stay here! The house looks newly updated and it was fantastic. Perfectly clean. We loved being on the lake, loved using the kayak and canoe, loved renting the pontoon from the neighbors for a day, loved all the things to do in the area. We would definitely go back!

Amazing lake house!!!

We stayed here during Memorial Day weekend and it exceeded our expectations. The property is secluded and the lake was beautiful. The house was updated and had everything we needed for our two families with kids. The owner was very gracious with our check-in and responded very quickly to inquiries. I would highly recommended this house and we will definitely be back!

Buck Rack Cabin

The cabin is beautiful and well furnished. The view of the lake is spectacular. The cabin owner, Amy Buck, was very helpful with any questions we had. This is our second time at the cabin. Once in the summer for ATV's and this time was riding sleds. Awesome place.

Touring the UP

Pictures do not do justice to this property. Beautiful house on the lake with all the amenities. Fabulous views of the lake with kayak availability. Clean and spacious! Would like to definitely return in the near future.

charming Cabin

The cabin was as charming as the pictures made it to be. It was very well stocked and extremely clean. The only issue was that the fireplace doesn't work. had the fireplace worked, it would have been a five-star experience.

Cozy and inviting

We traveled from WI for a wedding nearby. 6 adults, 2 kids, and 2 dogs stayed here very comfortably. We ran on the gravel roads, kayaked, and enjoyed the beautiful deck and reading nook upstairs. Cabin had everything we needed! Only downside was the mosquitos! If you rent this early summer, bring bug spray for evenings and mornings!!

WOW!

We had a fabulous experience from start to finish with this property and owner. The home was in beautiful working order with little things that aren't normally expected - access to more than 1 towel per person, 5 kayaks, a canoe, a coffee maker that does pots and K-cups. The location was quiet and scenic. The firepit was great and there were plenty of chairs to gather our group. Some of us old ladies paddled the painted rocks and it was amazing. We took the shipwreck tour, shopped in downtown Munising and explored the waterfalls and beaches. We didn't get to everything on our 4-day stay. I hope to return soon with my husband to explore more!!

Very nice lake house

Location is secluded, but easy to find. Like listing says, no service, but great WiFi connection if needed. Check in was super easy, loved that the house was open and keys were left on the table. House was very nice, furniture was comfortable, appliances were new, and everything we needed for our stay was provided (pans, spices, grill). We did see a few ants, but as the owner mentioned they are actively trying to remediate this issue. Owner was very responsive to our messages while staying. Canoe and kayak were ready to go. Life vests were in the basement. The lake was huge and we enjoyed exploring out on the water. Pictured rocks was a short drive away there are also ample trails near by. The trails right off the house are not kept so don’t recommend. We will definitely plan on revisiting this property next summer and highly recommend.

Wonderful Lake House in the Woods

Oh how I love this cabin! It was so perfect for our family of 5 (boys ages 9, 13 and 16). It was so clean and cozy. For our first trip up to the UP, it was perfect ! Our kids got to have a great experience fishing off the dock (my 16 year old even caught a 2 ft. long Pike!) it was so exciting for them. And kayaking on the lake was certainly a highlight for all of us. Having enough kayaks (and a canoe!) with paddles and life jackets was amazing and more than we could have hoped for! 16 mile lake is quiet and serene, it was just lovely! This cabin is obviously well loved by a family who knows how to provide anything guests could want. There is also a laundry room in the basement, which was great for us. The beds are comfy, the couches are great and the dining arrangements too. Honestly if you're looking for a place on the UP, look no further. This was the best place we stayed over a 14 day trip with 3 other cabins. Even during a huge rainstorm, it was wonderful to look out the enormous windows onto the lake. Just be advised that the road coming in is dirt/gravel and has several potholes. GPS might have a hard time navigating, so be sure to type in the info while you're still on wifi or have a good signal. We used Waze to get there without issues. Also, bring your bug spray for the mosquitoes in the evenings.

Family Vacation

The property was great. Very accurate to what you see in the pictures. We really enjoyed the kayaks, the open concept living area, access to the dock and beach, and the peace and quiet at night. It was a great space for our party of 8!

Peaceful Lakefront Retreat

Our family stayed for a week in early June and we were very happy with our stay. The house was very clean and well appointed. No communication problems with the property manager. We stayed with our somewhat anxious pup and she also fell into a daily routine and enjoyed her stay. The house is remote so we were able to let her run off leash without any issues (she's not a runner). There is a property next door but the people staying there were quiet during our stay. Made good use of the kayaks and canoes. If you're out on the lake, make sure you visit the larger section of the lake. The passage was easy to find on the far side and it's beautiful. Weather was perfect in early June and, with the property being open, we didn't have any issues with flies or mosquitos. If my kids were writing this review, they would point out that there are no working TVs in the bedrooms. The only thing we found missing from the kitchen that we could have used was a complete set of measuring cups and spoons, but we made do. The house is in dirt road country, but the roads were all well maintained and we did not need 4wd during our stay with the exception of one wrong turn onto a road that wasn't a road (thanks Google Maps). Cell and GPS reception are poor in the area so make sure you grab directions before you leave the house. All in all, we would happily stay in this house again.
