Excelsior Palace Portofino Coast

"This hotel is a grand hotel built with other grand hotels throught Europe at the turn of the 20th century with the relatively new railroad providing comfortable "speedy" travel compared to ships and horse drawn carriages. The hotel keeps its historic charm with its architecture, antiques and paintings throughout but has been recently updated with all modern amenities. The staff is very professional and there is excellent room cleaning. The hotel has a commanding view of the Portofino Coast from Rapallo to Portofino and South towards Sestri Levante that one of the best in Italy. The Beach Club is right on the water with a heated infinity pool and spa. (Similiar to Santa Caterina in Amalfi and much nicer than the crowded ones in Capri.) It is a short pretty walk by the marina to Rapallo that is a vibrant Italian town. Nearby Portofino used to be a beautiful fishing village but gets overwhelmed with tourists and cruise ships. Rapallo has kept itself more authentic with more Italians than foreigners. We stayed here 3 times this year and plan to return."

Beautiful view right across the street from the sea and as well directly across the street literally from the ferry which takes you to the highly over rated Portofino (the ferry ride there was much better then the a tual destination!) 10 euros for a coke / 25 euro salad etc shockingly over priced and over rated destination.... Skip Portofino and go to Genoa a true JEWEL ! PS breakfast at hotel just perfect !"

"This is a nice affordable hotel to use as a home base to go see Portofino. Its 2 min from the train station so no need for a taxi and the ferry to Portofino is maybe 2 min from the hotel on the beach. The room was clean has a good AC system mini fridge nice soaps, everything you need. It was also pretty big for Italy standards. The staff cleans the room several times a day. The hotel has a pretty nice free breakfast that's included with you stay."
