Among the many benefits of visiting this charming New England town are shopping deals and pathways to outdoor adventures.

Manchester always has something new to offer to first-time and returning visitors. New Englanders descend upon this hamlet for its designer fashion outlets. Return travellers to New England insist on detouring to the Northshire Bookstore, a cottage bookstore and book lover’s dream. Whatever your interests, visit this must-see town in Bennington County.

Manchester is partly located within the Green Mountain National Forest. Put on your hiking shoes and spend an afternoon on the trails in this remarkable woodland. Marvel at the cascade of water down the jagged levels of Lye Brooks Falls. Wander up Prospect Rock Trail, so named because it ends with a beautiful view of all of Manchester down below.

At Adams Park, buy fresh produce between June and October on Thursdays at the Manchester Farmers Market. While many locals use the farmers market as a chance to replenish their produce supplies, enjoy delicious prepared foods here as well. Taste a cupcake, slice of homemade pie or perfectly baked focaccia topped with local ingredients. Save room in your bags for Vermont maple syrup, a great gift for friends back home.

An essential stop while you’re in Manchester is the Hildene home of Robert Todd Lincoln, son of 16th U.S. President Abraham Lincoln. Today, the more than 400-acre (160-hectare) estate has regal gardens, terraces, ponds and a small farm. Spend time in the stately hallways of the Lincoln’s Georgian Revival house. There is a cost of admission, and additional costs for guided tours.

In winter, Manchester becomes a destination for cross-country skiing and sledding. At the Riley Rink, diversify your winter sports with ice-skating, hockey or the fascinating sport of curling.

To get here, fly into Albany International Airport in New York and rent a car. The drive from Albany is 47 miles (76 kilometres) and is as much of a draw to this region as Manchester itself. Continue exploring the rest of Bennington County and make Manchester your portal to one of the most beautiful areas in North America.

The hotel is in need of a boost of energy. It lacked the core emphasis on hospitality. Overall, it is situated in a beautiful area. However, next time in the area, I will be looking to stay at the Hampton Inn. It is better kept with a more well rounded setup for daily practicality. Or, an inexpensive ...

Everything about our stay was exceptional! Highly recommend. John V. was super knowledgeable about the area and recommended two excellent restaurants, mystico and Lola. Would stay again in a heartbeat. Don't miss Hildene!
