Penelope and Pete were the most welcoming and accomodating hosts. The property was so picturesque! Swimming, kayaking and fishing all in our backyard! It was so hard to leave, we can't wait to go back!

Communication before, during and after was great. The location was within a short drive to many offerings. Swimming access was ideal and was very enjoyable. I would recommend this property to anyone looking for a great base point in a central location with the option to have a great time at the location as well.

We had great access to a beautiful deck and kayaking. It was in the middle of several places we wanted to visit. The owners are very nice people. We had a really good time.

The location and stay were amazingly relaxing and just far enough from the beaten path. Days spent relaxing by the pond were magical.

Cottage was very clean, organized and equipped. For older seniors and people with disabilities it might be helpful to mentioned that the main floor has the kitchen and bathroom and the main bedroom is down one flight and the living room is up one flight.

Penny & Peter were lovely hosts. They live close by but only saw them occasionally. They were there to greet us and get us settled in. There's a lovely outdoor grill space with a brand new grill and your own private dock to chill on. They had everything we needed down to the olive oil! I would definitely stay again.

The house was the perfect spot for us. The host was very nice and we enjoyed our stay very much. It was nice to sit on the dock with a coffee in the morning or in the evening with a glass of wine. The home was very clean and cozy.

We were looking for a low key friends weekend, a place to hang out by the fire and relax. Penny and Pete’s place was perfect! Clean and cozy, they provided all the amenities one would need (charcoal for grill, wood for fire, bottles of water, towels, etc) overall a great stay!

My kids and I stayed at this little cottage on the pond. It was so peaceful and the manager was so very pleasant to talk with. We fished and the kids swam in the pond. We are definitely planning to come back in the winter because they are making a 4 season cottage ready. Everyone in the area was friendly! And the hen eggs were delicious! Thank you again!

We had an amazing time at this charming cottage. The place was spectacularly clean and exactly as advertised. It is cozy and charmingly decorated, complete with all the amenities one could need for a weekend getaway (or even longer stays) and a beautiful lake-side deck and natural fire place.
Penny and Pete were very gracious, responsive and accommodating hosts.
We would definitely come back for another relaxing getaway weekend.

This is a gorgeous small guest house great for a relaxing weekend or a place to crash after local hiking or other activities. The property owners were responsive and wonderful to work with. There is an outside hearth which you can use on request which is just GORGEOUS! The water has a bit of local flavor, so if you are picky bring a galleon of drinking water. Absolutely amazing stay!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here! There was plenty of room for a family of four. Access to the lake was right at our back door. We enjoyed the dock and the kayaks. The owners are also very nice! Our daughter was sick on one of our days here and they offered to drive into town for us to get her medicine if needed. We lost one day of sightseeing because of her sick day, but we were able to keep ourselves and our other child entertained on the lake. Would definitely stay here again!

If you want an extremely relaxing place, drive the extra mile into the woods to a great cabin on a beautiful pond. We were out to dinner our second night when a storm hit. On our way back to the cabin, a tree had fallen across the only entrance to the property and was impassible by car. The host was extremely quick to respond and brought us in via ATV trails on a side-by-side. Talk about service! If you want to get away from it all, stay with hosts that will go that extra mile to ensure you have everything you need.

We arrived after dark and when we arrived we were greeted by twinkling lights and dancing torches. The whole pond was sprinkled with similar decor. We squeezed in a morning kayak and mile long walks. So beautiful and happy. Hosts were gregarious and all the towns were twenty minutes away that offered fine dining and shopping. Purchased lots of Lilly Pulitzer, antiques and stopped for ice cream too. A perfect holiday weekend.

Loved this cabin in the woods of Maine, off the beaten path, on a beautiful, quiet, clear pond. Our hosts were nearby and gracious, but never bothersome. Our accommodations were perfect for two of us. Cozy, clean, unique, private, relaxing. We were allowed use of kayaks and thoroughly enjoyed our strolls around the pond in them. There were comfortable chairs on a deck right at the water's edge so we could watch nature come alive every morning and evening. A resident loon, a bald eagle, jumping fish, squirrels, chipmunks, bumble bee, and a neighborhood lab dog that loved to swim in the pond. We would highly recommend this venue!

We loved being here, it was quiet and the perfect weekend away for us to celebrate my husbands birthday. We brought food to cook breakfast and lunch at the cabin, and were able to cook just fine with the kitchen amenities provided. We easily traveled to Portland and neighboring cities for dinner after a day of fishing, kayaking and relaxing. It is good to note as another review stated that the cabin is right next door to the owners and other cabins on the pond, super easy check in and friendly hosts. If you’re looking for total isolation this might not be the spot! The cabin is also a split level style, you walk into the main level with kitchen and bath, upstairs is a second bedroom and living space and downstairs is the main bedroom which was helpful during the summer since it stayed nice and cool without air conditioning.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay - particularly kayaking and paddle boarding on the pond. The house is rustic and minimalist (4 forks, 4 dinner plates, only two seats at the indoor table, etc.) but we made it work. It did need to be cleaned a bit better, but we took care of that and it was ok. I think we may have had an off-visit, as I noticed many reviews mentioning they had things that were missing for us. Hosts were very responsive when we reached out, which was appreciated. The pond really is the best part, and we enjoyed it so much, even with our rainy weather. The neighbors put on an amazing fireworks show for the 4th!
It may be helpful for others to know the house is accessed by a dirt road that goes around the pond. I'm sure it's not a problem for most, but it was a little tough in our small sedan (especially with all the rain).

Pete & Penny (property owner/Vrbo listers) were wonderful & responsive: from its booking, to its check-in/arrival, to a couple needs once on site, to a “Safe travels/farewell!” upon checkout.
Cabin was adorable…& totally “Maine.”
So nice to have use of kayaks on a small, quiet lake; firepit outside the cabin; etc. Loved that they live on-site/close by & their free-range chickens about, too! :)
My only request would be to update its listing details to thoroughly explain to guests HOW “remote” it is…& that Barkers Pond Rd in is unpaved, EXTREMELY washed out & crippling potholes that you can’t avoid if you tried. Sincerely, had we not come up in an AWD SUV, I’d have truly been concerned with even GETTING to the cabin on this road! A sedan or any “basic” car, literally would have struggled.
As I live in a rural area of Upstate NY with similar(ish) roads in areas: please! Whomever is fully “in charge” of that road? Be it the camp owners, the town/municipality(?), whomever? Take better care/fill/tamp down/grade out your access road on the regular after storms (as well as updating your listing to explain the cabin’s FULL location/this road in!) or, I can assure you, you’ll likely end up with WORSE reviews at some point, when someone gets stuck/pops a tire/cracks an axle coming in to or going out of the extremely poorly cared for road.
That was its only “bad” part…
Cabin itself clean, tidy, great water pressure for showers, etc. - thank you, again!
