Myrtle Cottage - sleeps 4 guests in 2 bedrooms

Tucked away along a quiet lane in the Forest of Dean, Myrtle Cottage is a tranquil getaway for four, enjoying a wonderfully private setting with far-reaching views over rolling fields and gentle green hills. Perfect for a family escape or precious time spent with friends, and with dogs warmly welcomed, it's a place where the pace slows, the air feels fresher, and the surrounding countryside offers a calm that is instantly restorative.

Inside, Myrtle Cottage is brimming to its beams with warmth and character. The sitting room, with its panelled walls, inviting velvet sofas, and a crackling wood-burning stove, is a cosy retreat for any season. The kitchen-diner, full of rustic charm, sits at the heart of the home and is the perfect place for lingering over hearty suppers after days exploring the forest. The country kitchen with its cheerful patterned tiles and wooden worktops feels both homely and well-equipped for everything from slow Sunday breakfasts to celebratory feasts. Upstairs, the bedrooms are welcoming and restful, each with thoughtful touches that make them feel instantly comforting. They are the kind of rooms you'll happily linger in on a lazy morning with the windows thrown open to the sound of birdsong.

Outside, a garden with beautiful open views invites you to relax and watch the changing light over the hills. The outdoor dining area is perfectly placed to take in the shifting light over the hills, from sunny mornings to dusky evenings. Whether it's a quiet morning coffee, a long lunch in the sunshine, or a glass of wine under a star-scattered sky, this is a place made for life's simple pleasures.

Just a step down from the kitchen, the dining room has a rustic charm all of its own. A small bookcase offers a selection of reads for relaxed afternoons, and soft lighting creates a warm, convivial glow come evening.

Sitting Room
A room made for cosy evenings, the sitting room pairs soft, neutral tones with jewel-coloured velvet sofas, plump cushions, and the gentle flicker of the wood-burning stove. The panelled walls and beamed ceiling bring character in abundance, while the bay window fills the space with daylight and offers glimpses of the hills beyond. It's an inviting space to curl up with a book, play a board game, or simply unwind by the fire after a day of exploring the Forest of Dean.

  • This giant 13th-century sandstone abbey stands along the picturesque River Wye. After the Dissolution of the Monasteries in 1536 the lead roof was sold off and the Abbey lay neglected for 200 years. The Abbey was "rediscovered" in the 18th century and became a haven for artists and poets.

A fantastic stay!

Claire & John made our cottage stay so wonderful - a really idyllic cottage with a great big kitchen and 2 beautifully comfy king size beds. The location was perfect - lots to do and a perfect cottage stay - we would definitely come back!

Beautiful cottage in a perfect location

We absolutely fell in love with old Myrtle Cottage, a beautiful, well equipped property in the most perfect location for getting out and about in the Forest of Dean. The Farmers Boy Inn, just 200 yards up the road, was a lovely bonus. Their friendly welcome and hospitality, along with their excellent food and beverages, really helped to make our stay even better. We can’t wait to go back and discover more of the area!!

A great stay in a lovely cottage.

We had a long weekend in this cottage and really enjoyed it. Communication with owner the John was excellent throughout and the property is very comfortable and nicely furnished. Good walks directly from the cottage and it is in an exceptionally quiet position. Everything you could possibly need is provided and it's all very clean. Two woodburners as well as radiators keep the cottage nice and warm and the beds and furniture are all very comfortable. We would definitely recommend this cottage.

6/10 Okay

It's not friendly for winter stay

The property was beautiful, but I have to say it was extremely cold during our winter stay. My friend’s cottage, which was booked through the same agent, was much warmer in comparison. Our children didn’t even want to return to the house each night because of how cold it was. We had to keep our coats on inside the rooms just to stay warm, and we only ever heard the radiators working in the mornings. To be honest, it was a disappointing experience.
