- Ever stayed in a windmill? Now’s your chance – this one in Lincolnshire has been beautifully restored and renovated while preserving its fascinating heritage. Built in 1804 as a flour mill, it’s now been transformed into a quirky holiday home ideal for families, friends and couples seeking somewhere truly different. Located on the edge of Waddington, the property enjoys open views across surrounding farmland with a shop and pub only 0.5 miles away. Aviation enthusiasts can explore the International Bomber Command Centre (6 miles) and Newark Air Museum (14 miles), while families will love Rand Farm Park (15 miles) and Lincoln Water Park (6.5 miles). From the very top floor of the mill, aviation enthusiasts can enjoy distant views of RAF Waddington’s runway, home to the world-famous Red Arrows. Other nearby attractions include Doddington Hall & Gardens (8 miles), the elegant village of Woodhall Spa (17 miles) and the impressive National Trust-owned Tattershall Castle (19.5 miles). Wondering about the sails? They were removed during the war when they were considered too much of a target.
On arrival, you’ll pass through a wide front door into a spacious hallway. The ground floor houses three bright and welcoming bedrooms with high ceilings – a king-size with an en-suite shower room, a comfortable double and a single complete with a large bean bag chair. A family bathroom with a shower over the bath serves this floor. Continue through the property to a spacious open-plan kitchen and dining area with a breakfast bar that’s ideal for perching with a cuppa. Meals can be enjoyed at the large, curved dining table, and bi-fold doors open directly onto the garden. Be sure to appreciate the curved wall of the original windmill running through the heart of the room. Beyond this space is the circular lounge within the windmill itself, where you can sink into comfy seating after a busy day out. There’s a Smart TV and an impressive chandelier for a stylish appearance. From here, handmade curved stairs wind upwards through the tower, with bespoke metalwork inspired by the area's rich aviation history. The last bedroom – another double – is on the first floor, while at the very top of the windmill is a spectacular bathroom featuring a circular whirlpool bath with shower over, along with panoramic 360-degree views stretching for miles. From these lookout windows, you’ll be able to spot planes spotting, with the Red Arrows regularly training in the area.
Outside, subtle lighting around the top of the windmill creates a striking sight after dark. Extending from the dining area, you’ll have a good-size decked terrace where you can sit down to meals. There’s outdoor furniture, a brick BBQ along with a hot tub for indulgent soaks after days out exploring. Dog owners are particularly well catered for thanks to the outdoor hot and cold taps and dedicated dog-washing area. You’ll also have access to a large garage where you can store bikes and outdoor equipment. You can park four cars in the private gated driveway leading to the property.
