For most travellers, the best time to go to Le Pleynet is during the winter months, specifically from December to April, for prime skiing conditions.

Le Pleynet is a high-altitude ski resort in the Belledonne mountain range, known for its reliable snow cover and a wide range of slopes suiting different skill levels. The resort typically opens in early December and closes around mid-April, offering a long ski season. During these months, the average daily temperatures are usually below freezing, ensuring excellent snow quality.

Families with children will find the Christmas and New Year period (late December to early January) and the French school holidays in February to be particularly popular. During these times, the resort offers numerous activities for children, including ski lessons, snow gardens, and entertainment programmes. It's a busy period, so booking accommodation and ski passes well in advance is advisable.

Couples looking for a quieter, more romantic skiing experience might prefer visiting in January or late March. These periods often see fewer crowds, allowing for more serene moments on the slopes and easier access to the resort's facilities, such as its thermal baths and local restaurants. The snow quality remains excellent, and you can often find better value on accommodation outside of peak holiday weeks.

While Le Pleynet is primarily a winter destination, it also offers opportunities for hiking and mountain biking in the summer months (July and August) when the snow has melted and the alpine meadows are in bloom.
