"A tidy and well-maintained place, conveniently located in the heart of the city. We stayed in the family room, which was spacious and comfortable, making for a very pleasant visit. The breakfast was enjoyable, with a great selection of delicious pastries."

"A lovey 300 year old cottage. Beautiful rooms. Spotlessly clean. A full English breakfast sets you up for the day. Paula and Simon are wonderful hosts, very welcoming. We felt like we were visiting friends. Well located for getting around the area, Eden project and popular beaches and harbours a short distance away.

"Parking easy, reception area not great but checked in ok and shown to room. Room is fine but tired and kitchen too dark and poor quality fittings. Shower not high pressure but ok.
A good freshly cooked full English breakfast, and friendly owners. "

"Staff were friendly, room is very outdated and had a strange smell. Beds were average, shower was good. Breakfast in the morning wasn’t fantastic, we paid £120 for one night stay with breakfast but not sure it’s quite worth that to be honest. Wouldn’t stay here again."

"A very central hotel. Very clean & staff were friendly and helpful.
My one gripe is that when we were having late evening drinks in the bar, staff started tidying the room up around us & laying up for breakfast. It didn’t make us feel very relaxed or welcome to be there. That was a shame."
"Gymn and facilities excellent. Very friendly reception upon arrival and we asked for a quieter room and were provided with that. Left alone until we went out each day and room replenished and clean when back."
"Our room was lovely with great views and good amenities. But the stay was very much let down by the attitude and lack of communication from the majority of the staff.
When checking in I confirmed with the receptionist that we had a table booked in the Galley restaurant for dinner. On arrival in the bar for a pre-dinner drink my husband checked in with the waitress, who showed him our reserved table and told him to go through when we were ready. She did say that the Galley restaurant was shut ‘due to a wake’. There was no evidence of the wake still going on at 6 pm. When we went through to our table we were completely ignored by numerous waiting staff. Eventually my husband went to the bar to ask for another drink. At this point he was told that ‘due to the wake we are not doing table service tonight’. Now why, oh why, did none of the previous staff we had spoken to ever mention this? How long would we have sat there if we hadn’t gone and asked? And why did the long finished wake mean that there was no table service? Purely to make things easier for them at the expense of their customers. The food was nice, but the whole evening was marred by the attitude and lack of awareness of the staff. The duty manager did come and speak to us and comped us a drink, but this should never have been necessary.
Also please be aware that reception insist on a physical credit card - we could not pay by phone. Nowhere in advance is this made clear."

"The location of the hotel is good, close to city centre, railway station and The Barbican. Car parking is good and reasonable price. Reception is very welcoming and staff very helpful. Our double room seemed a little dated in furniture and underneath the desk were a lot of biscuit crumbs which then makes you think the room wasn’t cleaned properly. Reported to reception and they dealt with problem immediately. Bathroom also very dated and basic. Comfortable bed. Unfortunately the windows were of a poor quality and they rattled constantly through the night due to windy conditions. We didn’t eat at the hotel but the bar was very comfortable and welcoming. Overall disappointing but willing to stay again if standard of room could be improved."
